let's plan for Galactic Battlegrounds 2

I think Galactic Battlegrounds is a really good game, at least...it is for me, cauz I am a crazy Starwars Fan.

However, this game can be more popular if Lucasarts had the right marketing strategy...i mean...look:

at the E3 last year, microsoft is displaying their new AOM, and Lucasarts is displaying Galactic Battlegrounds, isn't that...kind awkward?

The past Lucasarts Strategy games were failures, for example: Force Commander. The game lacks a convenient interface and gameplay potential.

Having Starwars as the theme is a really really big advantage, however....they just don't seem to know how to make successful strategy games, even when they coop with other companies, they are way too slow in terms of marketing strategy.

I think we should think about how we want next version of Galactic Battlegroudns (or whatever strategy game it is) to be. I think Empire Earth's airplane control is really cool, and it has really good balance between big units (carriers) and small units (infantry). It's a possibility for Star Destroyers to appear in the game. We should start to think about it. And maybe sometime later we can compile our suggestions and send it to the programmers....

anywayz, lucasarts rox, no matter what.

no that's not what i mean

i don't want lucasarts to use EE engine

i am talking about...the balance between big units and small units

if it happens that star destroyers will be in the next strategy game of lucasart's

they need to think about balancing big units and small units like EE...

in EE u got big units like Nuclear Bombers, Carriers, Battleships

and u got small units like villgers and infantry units

the balance is really important

From what I heard (may be wrong because I never bought the game) EE had crap balance. Nukers being overpowered, those purple cyber thingies being overpowered, etc; and I also heard that the way carriers were portrayed was an incredible stupidity.

Can anyone who has played the game confirm any of this?

well yeah Nano age is really messed up because these cyber stuff is way stronger than infantry.

but dun worry about it because u don't have these gay cyber machines in Galactic battlegrounds, i am referring to the modern age in EE

Nuke is strong, definitely, but the Nuclear bomber is very vulnerable. People Barely get nuke becoz like 4 air-to-air hits kills a nuclear bomber...

Carriers, hmmm they are ok...

all these units have vulnerabilities, that's what i am talking about...

the AOK engine is designed for Medeival themes, originally..

it feels weird to have air units

they are suppose to be strong but NOT in this game...

that's what i am talking about...we need to give air units more power but at the same time balance it with other units

There's a couple of things that must be removed if there is a SWGB 2.

1) Farming.

This gets on my nerves having to sort out the farming inbetween battles. Like with WC3, they should maybe look at shelters providing food rather than messing around with farms.

2) Stronger Jedi

At the moment, despite Clone Campaigns improvements, Jedi still are useless. Too expensive, too slow to react and offer nothing in the game atm.

3) Cloaking clearer

Its hard to tell when a unit is cloaked or not. A symbol of something should be used to help us tell if one of our units is cloaked and can sneak in un-noticed.

Strike Mechs, Mech Destroyers are still ground units....consider "Medium"...

Think about Aircrafts, they are useless, a group of 10 heavy anti-air troopers can destroy like a whole team of aircrafts....

and also, I WANT STAR DESTROYER, I think it's possible since EE has carriers and infantries at the same time....we just need to balance in some sort, liike.....raise the price of Star destroyer....make it move slower, whatever...

Just give suggestions for the new galactic battlegrounds...

we can compile it and send it to lucas' development team some time...

Farming, I agree

we should use somet hing like a huge animal nursery or something....

Cloaked, yeah i had that problem too

and i think the cloaking is useless and doesn't make any sense if the unit appears when attack

i mean....who the hell would want to send cloaked jedi fighter, it makes no sense if the aircraft uncloak itself when fire...

Jedis and siths,

the Jedis are REALLY dumb, if they see a group of laser troopers, they start walking back and forth between the troopers , without striking any of them....gotta improve on that

oh one more thing

the graphics....AOK cause it's focused on Medieval Age so...the graphics is sufficient

but then for GB/CC, the graphics look kind of raw considering the variety of weapons it has in the game. the Lases look raw, especially green ones, they look like the lasers are made using Windows Paintbrush or something....

Er..... I have a suggestion.

Though your ideas are good, this discussion would be more suited for the "Ideas for SW:GB 2" thread, where many other ideas have been hashed out. There are also more regular posters in that thread, therefore anything you put there will attract more notice.

Soo....... er.... go there. Yesyes. *nods head like emu*

I agree that air units should be made heaps stronger. Little Anakin took out three droidekas with his N1, but in GB you'd be there for half an hour with one N1 against 3 droidekas. You could compensate by having more units able to shoot air, rather than just aa. Like laser troopers would be able to, but do not much damage. Most mechs wouldn't, except AT-AT.

I don't know that star destroyers fit in a ground-battle based game. However, I think some of the biggest units should be sea units. Firstly we've, seen no sea battles so there's plenty of room to make stuff up. Also, in real life our biggest war machines are ships.

Other threads on similar topics are becoming way too long so a late-comer to the conversation would have to read too much stuff, and they start getting off track anyway. I fully support this new thread and move to leave the old one to die.

But if we do go to a new thread, then we'll just have to repost everthing. Unless you want all the 'old' (and really quite good) ideas to be lost. I can't see why you'd want that.

You don't have to read the full thread. You could just jump right in and start adding in ideas, and pick it up as you go.
