StormHammer
Virtual Memory refers to the swap file created by Windows on your hard disk. If the size of this is limited...then it sounds likee it's been manually edited. You can change the size of the swap file by doing the following... Click START Click SETTINGS Click CONTROL PANEL Double-click SYSTEM Click on the PERFORMANCE tab Click on the VIRTUAL MEMORY button Click the LET WINDOWS MANAGE MY VIRTUAL MEMORY radio button - this ensures that Windows has control over the swap file...and it should grow or shrink as required. Alternatively you can set the size manually...to whatever you want...although usually you will not see much of a performance boost over 1024Kb. A good rule of thumb is to set the size to twice your RAM...however, if you are running something like UT2K3, then it needs 500Mb of virtual memory - I know, because it crashed on me when I set my Virtual Memory to less. Another thing to remember if you set the swap file size manually is to ensure the minimum and maximum size settings are the same...that way the file doesn't have to shrink or grow, which can have an adverse effect on performance. Anyway, however you adjust it, it will have to reboot for the new settings to take effect. Hope that helps. And good luck.
