And the wait goes on...

Isn't it about time Lucasarts made a new Star Wars flight sim for the PC to face upto X-Wing Alliance? I mean, XWA is still a good game but it's carrying a little dust and it'd be nice to see something new; something with great new graphics and revolutionary game play. Although I suspect that'd probably a bit too much to ask from lucasarts as they tend to **** game titles up. But having said that I can't deny that their games - despite their lack of punch - do grow on you and are challenging, and enjoyable to play, which is why we need more! :)

I havn't had a chance to try Rogue Squadron II but Starfighter on the Xbox looks ok - but only ok. I'm sure the PC can handle better than that, so the only reason I can see Lucasarts not having made anything new is because they're too busy making money for the console companies... or of course I could just be wrong. Hopefully though something is in the pipelines for the PC Gamer, in which case I look forward to what George's empire has to offer. And if not, then there certainly ought to be.

Fingers crossed

Yeah, a new generation of X-Wing games would be very cool. With the kinds of stuff they have in some games today, a new game would look highly awesome.

As I said before; if you want them to make a sequel, buy it! Tell everyone else to buy it! Buy a few copies! Petitions are useless; they make no money for LucasArts. Only thing that will get their attention is SALES.

They kind of tried that with The Empire Strikes Back. But that game was primitive! If Lucasarts are deciding what titles to release based on their previous success, I'd say they should look at the game itself and ask why it wasn't a success. As I mentioned earlier, they tend to usually make only "reasonable" games, ones that people probably wouldn't play if it weren't for the Star Wars factor.

Taking one of LA's recent conquests - Jedi Outcast, the game is beautiful I can't deny, but there is a distinct lack of "something" which other game's that I have played have, which lets it down. Single player is fantastic and I loved every minute of it, but there's a distinct feeling of repetitivness when you play it for more than 20 minutes in multiplayer. It's hard to explain, but it just seems as though there's no new tricks to explore or anything further original to discover. I remember playing Unreal Tournament for hours on end, refusing to stop playing, and only giving up for the fact it was 5am in the morning! - because although a lot of the time like with any game you get into a routine, there was always room for spectacular flukes or exciting gameplay.

Bearing all that in mind, I think if LA made a killer game to really give the leading genre titles (such as Quake and UT in fps) a run for their money - god knows they have the imagination and funding and resources behind them to do so - then they wouldn't have to worry about proceeding revenue of new games. And if LA can't make their game's themselves, then at least choose a company which knows how to make 'game of the year' title... or why not just buy them out like Microsoft did Bungie!

Mind you Halo is a seriously good game, if only it was flippin' well Star Wars orientated :)

The problem is motivation. LA (like thousands of other megacorps) is all about $$$. As far as they're concerned, the fandom's desires don't mean a thing. Love of the franchise and/or the craft of gaming may mean something to the cubicle-dwellers who actually do the programming, but the suits in the office need not even tell the difference between Star Wars and Pokémon. They just don't care. As long as people keep buying, they'll keep selling.

LA realises that they could package bantha poodoo and slap a Star Wars label on it (anybody remember Demolition?), and it'll sell millions of copies. They have no reason to sink time and effort into it.
