Crapola!

First of all, the word "CRAPOLA" has nothing do to with this post. It's just a mix between Crap and Hola. Essentially, it means "hello life." No, this thread isn't about made-up words, it's about college. I would just like to get a show of hands from people that are currently going through the admissions process or have in the last 5 or so years. You see, I've worked my entire life to get into the under-grad school of my dreams but now that it's time to apply, I feel like it's all...useless. It's not like the choice in schools really matters for the first four years, right? Right?... Well, here's what I'm thinking. I'll apply to one school that I can hopefully/maybe/oh-God-I-hope-so get into and one that I can definitely get into. I realize that I'm "supposed" to apply to like 4-5. At the max, I'll apply to 3. Am I making a mistake here? For the first time in my life I actually need someone elses opinion. Well anyway. I guess this thread's about college. Give me some tips on admission/aid etc, ppl. Thanks for reading.

Most people apply to 3-5 even if they are *sure they will be accepted to the one on the top of their list.

Nothing is ever guaranteed so it is best to keep your options open in regards to the school of choice.

As for your major, unless you are very adamant about the chosen profession you plan on partaking in, I would suggest applying to a school that offers a broad range of classes you have an interest in.

Most people change their major after their first year anyways, so unless you are absolutely positive you want to do X for the rest of your life, don't get stuck in a position where your options are limited.

As for the admissions process, yes it is a pain in the ass, and be prepared for the rejection letters, I knew many people who simply applied to a single school because they were positive their grades and various achievements would get them in, but failed to realize that they are simply one out of thousands applying. Sometimes it just comes down to the luck of the draw so to speak, so be smart and have something to fall back on.

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the advice. I guess I'll apply to an even safer safety school. BTW, Syracuse was/is my 'safety' school. As far as my major goes, I'm fairly set and have been for the past four years. Damn, I hate the admissions process...

You have nothing to worry about. Just be sure to apply for as many grants and scholarships as possible. It'll save you lots of money. I'm trying to get into MIT, but it's not easy. I still have another year before I go back to Udubb (U of W).

adios and good luck-

Thanks and gl to you as well. Duke is my first choice in schools; however, my pathetically low SAT scores aren't much to consider.
