HARD lock-up/crash...help pls

Recommended Posts

I bought and played this game probably the first day it came out, and I had zero problems with it for months. But I moved onto other games, so last night I decide to head back in for some MP JK2...and it locks up my comp COMPLETELY. No alt-tabing out to close it down, I can't even ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager; I have to actually hit the reset button on the tower(gasp!)... Not only that, but it changes the brightness of my video card settings...weird, I know. But my desktop(on the ONE occasion I was able to get back to it) was about 10x brighter than it should have been.

My specs:

Athlon 1700+

Win XP Home

512 MB RAM

GeForce 3

Audigy MP3+

The only thing I can think of that I might have installed since I last played(without problems), was Zone Alarm Pro, and maybe Norton AV 2003. I havent had a game lock up my comp like this since I installed XP.

Thanks for any help

And yes, Ive installed all the latest/greatest patches, and as far as I know, Im up-to-date on all my drivers...

Thanks

It's a common problem that the developers seem to have no knowledge of. I got the game 6 months ago and I haven't played it yet!!!!!

I can play a bit, i can get into the base place on the first level but it locks up and the sound loops. In Multiplayer i can only play for about 2 minutes before the same thing happens.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION!!??

If your EAX is on, try to set it off. You'll see it won't crash anymore but if your EAX is already off then it's probably another problem.

Check to see if you have EAX disabled. That can cause problems. You can find it under setup / sounds on the game menu.

Also, with my computer, when I have the color bits at 32, I get glitchy loops and jumps, so maybe you should check over your video settings incase you have them set a little high.

The other idea is deleting the jk2.cfg (SP) and jk2mp.cfg (MP) files from your base directory, and redo all the controls and settings incase there's a bad setting in there.
