A Simple guide to installing / using mods

Hi,

After reading through threads in the lucasformums and general bumpf on the internet I have no realised I have confilicting views / no idea on how to use a mod.

Here WAS my understanding...........

1.) you download a mod/skin/map from jediknightii.net (or somewhere else)

2.) This gives you a zip file with pk3 files inside. You unzip the zip file and put the .pk3 files in the gamedata/base dir on your client and / or server

3.) This then picked up the mod.

Having doing some reading I have found out some interesting information and read some conflicting views that I am hoping someone can put right here......

1.) when I have the .pk3 files do I unzip them and put the contents into gamedata/base ? or do I just put the pk3 files in ?

2.) Do I have to make seperate dirs for each mod ? ie the ultimate sabre mod, do I make /gamedata/base/ultimate_sabre then put either the pk3 files in or the contents of unzipped pk3 files ?

3.) How do I decide which mod to use ?? if I have for exmaple ultimate sabre mod 1 and ultimate sabre mod 2 and I want my server to use ultimate sabre mod 2 only, do I just remove ultimate sabre mod 1 ? or do I set a line in the config to say use mod /gamedata/base/ultimate_sabre_mod2

Is there a guide for setting / using mods on the both the client and the server ?

thanks,

Matt.

The game engine reads PK3s only. So extract the PK3 file into your gamedata/base folder.

If some of the modifications require it, you should make a folder in your gamedata directory - gamedata/JediPlus

Check the ReadMe for details on installation.

Whatever files are in your base / server's base folder, the game will read. If Ultimate Sabre Mod 2 changes some files from the original Sabre Mod 1, then you should use one of them. The modifications could conflict eachother.

If you have your own server, look around on these boards for some tutorials, if you're hosting it from your PC, you can use the in-game server creation or download JediRunner to create a config file.

If you use the Dedicated server executables, you'll need a server.cfg with all the settings in.
