The Dark Side is obviously more powerful! Let's look at the defeat of some major dark jedis. For simplicity sake, we'll stick to the movie as that is only 3 although I could think of more.

 

Darth Maul - Layed the smack-down on a Jedi Master and was slain out of anger by Obi-Wan. And hey, let's face it, that wasn't a very good ending. Unless you weren't a strong Jedi (And we know Maul was strong), someone couldn't have time to jump up and over you, pull a lightsaber, ignite it, and cut you in half and surprise you...

 

Darth Vader - Luke only managed to get a good blow in when he attacked, once again, out of anger.

 

Palpatine - Could've easily killed Luke, but since one of us ultra-powerful dark side characters had an attack of conscience, he was killed.

 

So there you have it... proven throughout the movies that the only way to kill us is through the path of the dark side because the light is too weak.

Obi-Wan didn't dissapear before Vader hit him. As Yoda did, Obi-Wan became one with the Force as he died by Vader's strike. How could you not realize that? If we take what you said, "Obi wan disappeared before Vader ever hit him..." let's not forget that Obi-Wan DID die...so then he commited suicide?
