sidewinder joystick difficulties

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Freestyle Pro. I am trying to use it as my joystick, but I am having problems with the D-pad (directional pad). I use it to help aim when firing my weapon, but it is slow to respond and not very sensitive. Is this a problem with the sidewinder, or the game? Or is there something I haven't programed correctly in the game? I have played previous star wars games using the same joystick, and never had such a problem.

Please help.... I'm getting frustrated trying to switch the aim control back to my mouse every time I want to shoot at anything.

Thanks!

I'm afraid you're out of luck. They programmed the game without true analog joystick support. What they did was allow joysticks to replicate keypresses, so moving the stick in any direction is exactly the same as if you pressed a key to do that function.

If they had provided "true" joystick support you would be able to adjust the speed with which you can turn as in the previous games, move the stick slightly & turn slowly, push the stick further over & turn faster, etc.

If the D-pad is supposed to replicate the mouse function I can't see why it wouldn't work, but if it replaces the analog mouse input with digital keypress type functions the same way the game does with the joystick axis' then you will have the same problem with not being able to adjust from slow to fast to aim.

I don't know if that helps at all, but good luck.
