CorranSec
Respawning vehicles wouldn't make the battle last forever. It'd be balanced and designed so it wouldn't. Would this tree campaign be single-player or multi-player? And what would the scenarios be? If the normal SW plotline gets disturbed (by the wrong side winning), you'd have to go to an all-new or EU scenario...
Admiral Vostok
That's okay. I don't mind "what if?" scenarios at all. As long as they are Star-Warsy
Crazy_dog no.3
Arrgh! How many times do I have to go and bump this thread by reposting?! If the Ewok village is in the same place all the time, the Imperials could easily remember where it was and just crush it immediately, without having to send out patrols (which is what they should be doing). Ah, now I get it. It sounds fine by me.
CorranSec
Oh, so that's what's been happening. I was confused for a moment..... You know, it might be more effective if you actually brought something new up. An idea for the Yavin scenario?
Crazy_dog no.3
OK. Yavin scenario: Imps- Start off in "Landing Zone". There is nothing much there but a [unuseable] landed shuttle with supplies for infantry and a few AT-ST's, AT-PT's and more of the smaller vehicles. Rebels- Start off in any of the bases shown in the GB Yavin mission, Massassi Base bieng the main one. Map- If the Imps capture a neutral airfield near thier landing zone, they get acces to a limited number of TIE Fighters and Bombers. Rebels get thier air vehicles for this mission in the Massassi Base hangar. Terrain is mostly jungle, with a few streams and hills.
Crazy_dog no.3
So far we have only been covering ground battles. Let's cover a space battle: Endor (space) Oh BTW I'm bumping this too. Imps- Imps start off in one of 2 locations; Death Star II or Imperial Fleet. All players spawn inside Star Destroyers or the DS, not in space (obviosly). Star Destroyers are like (as are all big ships in this game), in BF1942 sense, a flying aircraft carrier with a battleship's guns. On the Star Destroyers TIE bombers, Fighters and Interceptor's respawn. The SDS's themsleve's respawn at the "Imperial Fleet" spawn point. To balance them out, they spawn like once every 8 mns. The DS cannot spawn SD's for balance purposes. Imps also get 1 SSD which doesn't respawn. And once every 10 mns they can use the DS's laser to turn one Rebel Capital ship into space dust. Rebels- They can only start off in 1 location, which is the "Rebel Fleet" spawn point. Everyone spawns inside a Mon Cal cruiser or Nebulon B Frigate. Rebel air is far better than the Imps. Thier Mon Cal cruisers and Frigates spawn X-Wings, Y-Wings, A-Wings and B-Wings. If Rebels capture the "Imperial Fleet" spawn point, they can respawn 2 Mon Cals and 1 Frigate there, and only have the Death Star II's laser and TIE's to contend with. the Imp's tickets decrease rapidly after "Imperial Fleet" is taken, and when thier tickets run out, game over for them! lukeiamyourdad
We should keep space battles for the flight sims...
Crazy_dog no.3
Why?!
CorranSec
Crazy_dog: I disagree about the Yavin scenario... there was never any ground combat, and I'm sure everyone would like to do the Trench Run scene in a game. I also think that the objectives should be something better than just "make the enemy run out of tickets," especially for the Alliance. Yavin- The Rebels have to fire a torpedo or two down the reactor shaft, then get the hell out of there. The Empire's turrets and TIE fighters make this extremely difficult, however, and if they capture the Rebel spawn point, they win. For Endor, you have to fly into the DS2 superstructure, hit the reactor core hard, then once again run far, far away. However, if the Imperials can overpower the Rebel forces at their spawn point, they win.
Crazy_dog no.3
Let's have 2 Yavin maps! Becuase rememeber, the opening of ESB says something like "the Rebels, fleeying the Imperial fleet, have established a base on the ice planet Hoth". I don't remember becuase the last time I saw ESB was 3 months ago. They must have had a reason to flee the base, and there is really only 1 way to include a jungle map (jungle, not Endor's forest) I like ur take on the second Endor map. But maybe it could be like a type of game u can play on the map (BF1942, besides the main "battle", also has Death Match, CTF, etc.). Kind of like the objective-based maps on MOH:AA
lukeiamyourdad
in the imps campaign you have a ground Yavin battle. the imps were invading it. that could be good. I'm only saying keep space-battles for the flight sims because most people don't own a joystick. it's gonna be hard as hell for them to play correctly. Admiral Vostok
Good point, Luke's Dad. I remember I bought a joystick specially to play TIE Fighter, and I haven't used it since. This style of game should focus on a trooper running around in huge ground battles. You could still have a Yavin scenario, as we've established. Nearly every Star Wars flight sim has a trench run, so I don't think we're missing much.
Crazy_dog no.3
I see what u're getting at. But BF1942 had controls for people without joystick, and so has Renegade. Not nothing as simple as Renegade, but very simple.
CorranSec
Well, even though it's totally unreal, an Imperial invasion of the Yavin base would be fun. People would get quite confused by it though.... About the whole joystick/space battle thing: The game isn't just about a trooper running around. Just like BF1942, there will be all kinds of vehicles seamlessly incorporated into the game. And if there's going to be vehicles (including aircraft) available, why not have a few scenarios where there's just vehicles?
lukeiamyourdad
of course the game is not only about troopers running around but however trying to control an X-Wing for instance in the Battle Yavin is very hard without a joystick.
CorranSec
Well, plenty of people who like SW games will already have a joystick. Plenty of people who like joystick-related games will already have a joystick. People who want to play the game will get a joystick. But if people don't want to get joysticks, doesn't BF1942 have a flight control setup that doesn't require a joystick? How does that work?
lukeiamyourdad
I don't know how it works but I think it's with your mouse...which is very hard to handle...
CorranSec
Hmm. Well, I suppose people might just have to fork out the money for a joystick. Or a gamepad. In fact, a gamepad would probably work quite well- you could use it for every part of the game, not just flying.
Admiral Vostok
I've thought about getting a gamepad before. Does anyone have one? Can you use them for lots of games? I don't see what's wrong with just having this game focus on being a trooper who runs around. There are plenty of Star Wars flight sims, so a flight sim part to this game isn't a necessity. For other things you can find something better... 2-EXACTLY!
CorranSec
1. Gamepads can be used for practically every kind of game, especially 1st-person and flight sim games. I have a pretty useless one though. 2. There are plenty of Star Wars "trooper who runs around" games. I think that a combination would be best. Crazy_dog no.3
lukeiayourdad- Which flight simulator lets u walk around cap. ships, and sometimes even control them while still having the option to fly an ordinary fighter?!
lukeiamyourdad
Corran-Just for planetary stuff. Crazy Dog-Why would you need to walk around a cap ship?
Crazy_dog no.3
U don't. But the only game that has let u do this is Dark Forces, and that is like thousands of years old, and no longer available in shops. It's like saying: why do we need to fight at all in a Star wars game and try to make friends with the Trade Federation even though we're Naboo.
CorranSec
Actually, walking around inside ships is present in all of the DF/JK games, and it was especially fun in JO. I think that being able to walk around inside (and hopefully battle within and take control of) a cap ship would be a great inclusion for this game we're trying to make.
