Newbie with some questions

Kinnopio?

Recommended Posts

I use JK2radiant and I'm having some problems. First of all, the editor is saving my files in .map and .bak format, which the game can't run. So I can't test my maps.

Second, my skybox doesn't work. I followed the instructions to the letter but it has that blocky normal-texture appearance rather than the checkerboard.

I'm sure I'll have more questions if I stick with this. Thanks in advance.

you have to compile the .map. At which point if there are no errors it will return a .bsp which the game can then run.

Don't worry about your sky yet, as the editor and the game will show you two completely different things...:)

Btw to compile just hit BSP menu and select full..:)

I did compile it, I chose "Bsp Fullvis"...

And my sky

From the FAQ:

Right click misc_model and then hit the N button, go to insert your own model, minimize the entities window and you should be prompted with a windows file search with Radiant asking where your model is, go to the models directory under your base folder and find your model in question.

I did this and my models still won't show up. With some models I get the error message "SourceSafe: Opening...

ReadyEntity NOT created, brushes not all from world

Entity NOT created, brushes not all from world

SourceSafe: Closeing..."

And when I try some models I get the message "Loading model C:\progra~1\lucasa~1\starwa~1\gamedata\base/c:/program files/lucasarts/star wars jk ii jedi outcast/gamedata/base/models/map_objects/imp_mine/lamp.md3... failed. Trying PAK file... failed."

And about the skybox, what I'm getting is this:

http://www.tribalpharmacy.com/hubstuff/no.jpg when the faq says I want http://www.tribalpharmacy.com/hubstuff/yes.jpg .

So I don't know if its my mistake or a technical thing or what...

To put a model in, it is not good to use that file open dialog to select a model file. The open dialog puts in the whole path from C:\ to your model file and that's not good. You need only the part after '\base'. So if you want to use the open dialog, delete the beginning of the path it gives you. But it can be easier to just close it and enter the path to your model by hand.

And use slashes instead of backslashes if everything looks good but the model doesn't load up.

In your case: 'models/map_objects/imp_mine/lamp.md3' should be OK.
