Takeoffyouhoser
I made a hangar that i want to open to an outdoor terrain.. This terrain will be about 2500 brushes total. I can go either way making an openable hangar door, or making jsut a forcefield... My question is If i were to make jsut a forcefield, and with the terrain, would that cause much of a slowdown on older Pc's ?? or would i be better off making a Hangar door that opens up, to block all the stuff being drawn all at once? DISorder
My guess is, yes it will create slowdown, esp. if you're viewing the 1500 brushes of the outdoors and whatever brushes you have indoors, I start to get slowdown at about 2200 and im on a 1ghz athlon w/ 256mb RAM. Would probably be better off making just a door or making the outdoor terrain brushcount less...you can always try it yourself to see...

Unless you're using an area portal or a hint brush, even if you use a Hangar door it's still going to draw the terrain, and you'll most likely get slowdown if you look in it's direction. The real question you should be asking is : do I really need 2500 brushes worth of terrain? See if you can cut back... remember, playability is one of the most important aspects of mapping.
