Sephiroth CR
If I want to host a server, want to be able to play on it and want other people to join, would I dedicate it or not? Are people still able to join, even if you don't dedicate your server?
Bilbo Skywalker
if it is dedicated, you cannot join it.
Hekx
You can just create an offline-type non-dedicated server with bots, and tell your friends your IP, then they should be able to connect. If you want to host a dedicated server, you can all join that aswell, but remember that you'll need a good broadband connection and a powerful PC to be able to maintain a lag-less server. That's why people with 2 networked PCs can host good servers.
Sephiroth CR
Ok. But can people still join my server on the internet (while I'm online) even if I don't dedicate it?
Hekx
If you have JK2 running a map, non-dedicated and you have an active internet connection... they should be able to join. If it's listed on JK2 browsers, it would be a dedicated server. If you want to let your friends play on a server, host a dedicated. If you want to play with your friends, I suggest a normal non-dedicated server since dedicated servers eat up a lot of RAM.
Sephiroth CR
Ok. Thx for the help!
Sephiroth CR
Ok. Just to make sure I have the steps correctly, I would first make sure I am connected to the internet. Then I would create a non- dedicated server, give my friend's my I.P. address, and they would be able to join. Also, would the server be fine with me having a 1-way cable connection? (1-way cable means the upstream is 56k and the downstream is cable) (also my pc is very powerful)
