Vulorum
First let me tell you what I did; I decided to make a map in gtk radiant but to say the least radiant sucks ass. Sorry for the cursing but how can you call it a modeling program when you can't even modify vertices like you can in MAX? So I went and got Gmax because discreet is awesome and I have 3D Studio MAX 5 and im pretty damn good. Now I have this map in Gmax one has textures the other doesn't, just in case textures would screw up the conversion if there is one. Okay, is there any program to take maps made in gmax and convert them to gtk radiant to complie them as bsp? Or is there some other way around this? I got a bad feeling there isn't. Eagle_e7
Have you tried gmax tempest? Its what i used to convert my gmax models into .md3's and into the radient, im pretty sure it can export to .map files aswell although i havent tried it. You can download it from here: http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/
Vulorum
I have, in fact, tried that and the damn thing won't install something about not finding Gmax then it gives me directions to fixing it: (tells me to go find a file and make sure a certain line of code is in it.) So I did that and it still wont install. Any thoughts? Anybody else have this problem?
Eldritch
I doubt very highly that such a thing can be done. Radiant is a mapping tool, not a modelling tool. I'm not sure who told you it was a modelling program, but whoever it was was very misinformed. Even if you did manage to export your map as an md3, models aren't solid in Radiant, so to make things solid you'd end up making brushes anyway. Leslie Judge
If I remember, gmax tempest can export the level as .map file. However it is for Quake3 and you can't configure to use your JK2 installation. Or am I too stupid to figure it out? Can be.
Vulorum
doesn't Gtk Radiant take .map files. then couldnt I just compile it as a bsp? hold on let me check... ..yep it can open .map or .qe4 or whatever that second one was. so if tempest exports as .map do you mean .map for quake III (meaning ONLY for quake, like there was something in the file that is not transferrable to Gtk Radiant?) Stop me if im wrong, which I probably am, but, I....fail to see how this couldn't work, Aru-wen. Oh and one more thing... do i need quake III to run tempest. Because these directions are given me the feeling that I do.
Eldritch
Like LJ said... you can use tempest to convert it to a .map file that Q3 would recognize, but as there are differences between Q3 map files and JO map files, I still am skeptical about it working. Also, you're most likely going to need to do some work in Radiant anyway... texturing, putting in a sky, and if you have any curves in the map you'll have to take the necessary steps to make sure it doesn't leak when you compile, amongst other things. I've also heard that there is some type of problem with the program(s?) that create .map files... bad brushes, brushes showing up in the wrong place, etc. To me, it just seems like it would've been less work to make it in Radiant from the get go, but if you can get it to work, more power to you. Vulorum
Woohoo! Not to sure if texures work because i didnt put any on but this definitly work where I needed it to: Geometry! Like I said the geo in Gtk Radiant blows @$$ho|es. Man I hate it soo much. But now all I have to do is texture it. I'll get back to you guys on the texture thing whenever I get to it. In case anyone wants to know. Thanks for all the help guys!
