T-0NIC
I want to make a big caribbean island. Now I want to know how I can put these Yavin trees and the gras into my map. Has anyone an idea?
000nate
I would just use a texture for the grass, becuase if you try to make every little blade of grassyou would get a frame rate of like 1 per 10 seconds. Not to mention it would take a lifetime to load, and compile. However for the trees, you use models. I forget where the tree models are exactly, just cruise around in your assets0 pk3 file to find them.
T-0NIC
Could you please tell me how to make gras? I will use less then. There are a few tree models in the .pk3. Which one shall I use? I tried one of them but I can see it only as a red box in Radiant.
000nate
I really am not sure about what all the trees look like and which one is best, but as far as grass goes, I suppose if you just wanted to make some sections have some long wild grass or something that may work. If this is the case, I'm not sure how you would want to approach it. Personally I would just make some long boxes and kind of give them a little curve but the problem is is that they would act as a wall when you ran into it. And if you want little grass all I could think of doing is taking a few really small skiny boxes, with the grass texture (whatever you're thinking of using) and just copy and paste them in a certain area. :I'm really not an expert at making some outside stuff. You might want to check the yavin level in outcast to see how they did the grass.

I tried one of them but I can see it only as a red box in Radiant. are you talking about grass or grasses? there should be a shader or shaders in the Yavin texture set to give you the effect you want. you're not going to make grass out of brushes... it would look like s**t and you'd be here for years making a yard!!! I am not to sure about framerate issues with the grass shaders, as far as i remeber from the Yavin Swamp, it wasn't used everywhere.. these shaders will have a white box around them, so jsut try em all out... I want to make a big caribbean island. Now I want to know how I can put these Yavin trees and the gras into my map. Has anyone an idea? For the trees, select a misc_model, then select map objects, then yavin. here you'll find all the trees along with plant models. go here and see some examples of trees and a tall grass model. the grass model is on the base of the bunker entrance. http://sonkate.com/imperial_brewery/

000nate
When I said low frame rates I mean if you were to create all the grass by hand, not if you were to create a texture that had grass. Infact thats what I said that the person should do is create a texture that looks like grass.

When I play it, there´s nothing! If you use JK2Radiant, then yes, it will not work without a little modification. Select the tree model, then the click the OK button of the error message, select the key "model" in the entity window and delete the beginning of the value UNTIL "models/". Press ENTER. Master Toke
The Yavin texture set has two types of brushes that, in game, will give the effect of grass. You won't see the effect in the Radient. I can't recall the names of the textures, but one is grass and one is a viney effect like grass, but hangs down from the ceiling. Also, there are two grass shaders..one for swamps and one for like a field or something. I've used all three textures and the tree model in my maps and they work fine. Master Toke
Open up Windows Explorer and browse the model directory. There is a tree.md3 in the \yavin folder.
