Hey peeps -

I'm having problems playing my JK2 game. I can start it up and play with the options and and start a new game. However, while seeing the "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" screen when the bar gets about 1/3 of the way across it crashes and I get the following output (or at least the end of it):

I'm running a XP2100 with a Radeon 9700 and 1GB DDR so I don't think it's my computer and I have cleaned my CD and it doesn't have any scratches...

any help would be appreciated...

Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
It has something to do with JPEG image compression, I'll keep searching for a fix.

Have you checked the PK3s in your base?

Some of the textures from the assets.pk3s could be damaged. You should try removing all PK3s from your base and doing a clean install. You can either restore the assets files from your cd or reinstall the game.

Well, the 2 pk3s in my base dir have the same byte count as the ones on my CD... don't know how to check to see if they're good or not tho... don't even know what a PK3 file is really...

I tried an uninstall and reinstalling the game as well as copying over the pk3 files from my game CD but still no go...

no, I haven't been able to play the game yet so these are the only 2 pk3s I have... I used WinRAR to open it and had it test the archives... assest0.pk3 had 6 files with a bad CRC, they are:

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in maps\bespin_platform.bsp

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in maps\kejim_base.bsp

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in models\weapons2\merr_sonn\merr_sonn_w.glm

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in textures\kejim\metal.jpg

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in video\jk06.roq

assets0.pk3: CRC failed in video\jk09.roq

I checked and thats 36+ megs altogether... and theres no real gaurantee that the rest of the stuff on here is any good either... any suggestions? I borrowed this game from a friend (he bought it) and it worked fine for him... or so he says... you think the CD went bad somehow? I'll probably end up getting an image of it from somewhere and try again...

It does look like the assets0.pk3 is damaged, since you shouldn't be getting any CRC errors. Is the file 36MB all together?

The exact size of the assets0.pk3 file is about 510MB. Check the file on the disk, see if there's any scratches. You should be able to get a new copy from a Retail store.
