Bell
use notepad to open and edit it. then do a search on "new npc in multi player" or something like that there is a thread that explains how to customize it.

N64Nut2
ok i appreciate the help, but i am still confused. I'm not sure how to edit the file using winzip, and that turorial confused me as well. I just want to know a way to open the file, make a change, then save it so the changes will take place right away. i'm not wanting to make a mod or anything. Bell
Install winzip. Double click on the assets0.pk3 in your base folder. When it asks you what program to use to open it choose winzip and click on the "always use this program to open this file type" or whatever it is. Click on the "name" title bar in winzip to sort alphabetically. Find and click on "npcs.cfg" Click on extract. Choose the option "use folder names" or whatever it is. The destination can be a temp folder or whatever. Go to the folder after extracting and double click on the npcs.cfg file. When it asks you what program to use to open it choose notepad and click on the "always use this program to open this file type" or whatever it is. You will see a series of entries like this. ------- Kyle { fullName "Katarn, Kyle" playerModel kyle saberColor blue reactions 4 aim 5 move 3 aggression 5 evasion 5 intelligence 5 playerTeam player // race human class kyle snd kyle sndcombat kyle sndjedi kyle dismemberProbHead 1 dismemberProbArms 1 dismemberProbHands 20 dismemberProbLegs 1 dismemberProbWaist 1 } ------- I haven't looked but the tuts above may explain what these do. And read this thread top to bottom. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68203&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 You'll notice it was extracted to a ext_data folder. Once you finish editing it you can save it as the same name but you must not repak it in the asset pak. Right click on the ext_data folder with your updated npcs file inside. Choose winzip/add to zip file. Name it "mynpc" or whatever and say ok. When its finished rename the extension from .zip to .pk3 and throw it in your base folder. If you have trouble with the extension go to windows explorer and choose tools/folder options. Go to the view tab and UNcheck "hide file extensions for known file types". Then lemme know if you have other q's.
