Some comments about weird SWGB AI

Recommended Posts

As I've said before I don't play on the Zone. My playing nowadays consists of a direct connect with my friend and we play allied against a number of computers.

Over the many games we've played some weird things have happened, but I mentioned them in an ancient thread titled "What's the weirdest play by a computer" or something similar. Here I'm really trying to get an insight in to why some things happen.

One occurence that happens in pretty much every single game is that the allied computer players either send all their forces at just one of us while the other gets no attacks against him. The computers go so far in that on maps like Kashyyyk and Endor where there are only certain paths you can follow, the computer will walk down a path to my base, find I've blocked the way to my friend's base, and turn around to find a better way to my friend's base without attacking me. Or sometimes they'll break down my wall (though not anymore since I've gotten better) and instead of attacking me they walk through my base to attack my friend (or vice versa where they are trying to get to me).

Is this how the AI was in AoK? Because it is based on a good idea (kill one guy then the other) but implemented pretty poorly.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Vostok-The comp is programmed to prioritize the player with the highest score (take out the strongest one first). It will attack the player with the highest score until something of greater priority (buildings in a certain radius of their own buildings is usually it) comes up. That's when I play with a comp ally, I keep my score low until late game, when the comp is cake.

As for AoK, until a patch came out (or maybe it was the expansion?) the comp would not only prioritize with whomever had the highest score, if the score fluctuated mid-battle, the comp would pack up and retreat, and then attack the new leader:)

i played a game this morning. 1v1 vs the comp. on hard... precipe map...

the comp WALLED THEMSELVES IN! They didnt make a gate out of their base to attack me! I swear to god. Then their air all went straight at my 2 forts and got wiped out... air raids and assault mechs later the game was pretty much over...

There were the comp allies that complained that they detected no bodies of water when i told them to create boats. It was landmass--surrounded on all sides by water, and it went inland too.

I had an ally who walled themselves in, while i was being attacked and wore down by 2. i tried to get them out with artillery, but they rebuilt the gap.

---i have discovered an animal glitch ( i have no where else to put this). In the editor, i tried to make some tusk cats attack my command center. Testing it, i saw tusk cat decayed bodies float towards my base. At it they reappeared as live tusk cats and attacked it.

I think the game freezes up when you make the wandering animal types attack (kaadu, rhontos).

I think the resource dump thing is because sometimes if the comp is in an alliance it will decide to be an economic civ rather than a military civ. So they put all their energy into resources and tribute them to a more military-minded ally. However, last time it happened to me the comp did as much attacking as I did. So I don't really know what's going on.

What about them atacking fortresses in DMs I build a enourmous wall of turrets, AA turrets and a couple of fortresses. The idiot computer goes after the fortress. Also he doesn't send a massive amount of troops he sends 2 pummels at a time. They need to program the computers to attack with a brighter strategy. ( I play the AI map sea):fett:

Have you ever had a comp ally not respond to commands? They won't even say no. (I did check to see that was where my message went.) This tends to happen on hardest(even on locked) and last person standing.

Even worse, human allies who never talk. I asked him to build a spaceport, and it was a while into the game(like past spaceport building time). He said and did nothing after several requests. I even tributed 200 carbon to help him build it and said that was what it was for!!! Post-game chat revealed he did know english.

There are times when i play random map games that both my allies and enemies will move almost all their military units in a thinly spreaded wall around their bases. most of them are bounty hunters which makes sneaking cloaked jedi into their bases almost impossible on the harder settings cause once they uncloak all the bounty hunters go to that one spot
