Wes Marrakesh
What kind of tags do I need for them, where do I place them, and how do I get a model in game? Long winded and noobish, I know, but I am a at this
Matt-Liell
Which weapon? Lightsaber or other?
Wes Marrakesh
Both, actually. Got a saber waiting for skinning/UVWing and I'm working on an Autocannon from Heavy Gear right now
Matt-Liell
For a saber you need a tag_flash. Make a triangle and convert it to an editable poly and name it tag_flash then place it where you want the blade to come out.
Wes Marrakesh
Does that affect where the hands are? And how does one UVW Unwrap? I can map it ok but I can't unwrap to skin..
clu
I found UVW mapping and unwrapping a real pain. This tutorial helped me out quite a bit: http://www.waylon-art.com/uvw_tutorial/uvwtut_01.html -clu
Wes Marrakesh
I could probably get my weapon from gmax into my crummy 3dsmax but I dunno if I want to, due to file formats. Thanks for the tut though, clu Anyone know about the tags?
clu
I haven't experimented yet, but for guns I think "tag_flash" needs to go where the barrel of your gun is. "tag_weapon" should go where you want the players hand to be. I'm not sure about orientation, but post back whatever you figure out (I'm curious). As for sabers, "tag_parent" goes where you hold the hilt, "tag_flash" goes where the saber comes out. The tag_flash's shortest side needs to point up, with the longest side resting on the hilt itself. tag_parent I got working by having it lay flat on the xy axis, with it's longest point pointing away (east from your front view in max) from the hilt. Hope that's not too confusing. -clu
Wes Marrakesh
Well, here is what I discovered with weapon tags: tag_flash for guns- long edge goes up and down the y axis and the short edge follows the z axis (top view). tag_parent for guns- same orientation instructions on the axis. I -think- that the long edge represents the bottom of the hand. Now all I need help with is getting it to be in the right place in first person and then a skin.
