I have a question about modelling...

I posted this topic in Showcase Forum..(which I shouldn't have). Anyways, I think I will get more like replies here.

Here was my first question...

I know this question doesn't fit with the topic of this forums, but I was wondering...Is it hard to like create models? It seems hard because I have no experience in modelling, but I would sure like to learn how. I would have made an Episode I Queen Amidala in instead of requesting for it to be made.

Here was my second question...

Are there any good sites that give step by step instructions on modelling?

When you actually get to the point where you're doing a model specifically for Jedi Outcast, take Charmin's advice and get the Spacemonkey tutorial (and the addendum to his tutorial...written by someone else but extremely helpful).

Look for "Spacemenkey" and "Addendum to SpaceMonkey’s 3dsmax to JK2 modeling Tutorial" at the "files-->tools" section of:

http://www.jediknightii.net/

For actual character modeling, it depends on 3D package (Maya, 3DS Max, etc). For the actual modeling of the character, I would search the web for "low polygon modeling" in whatever 3D package you are using (there are literally tons of tutorials).

I started with a book by Paul Steed that helped a lot (but you should supplement it with other tutorials...it's a bit out of date):

Modeling a Character in 3DS Max

Hope this helps.

Thankz for the info clu and thankz for the link. I'm going to most likely buy that book and look at tutorials of spacemonkey. Charmin Deluxe and others. I'm like good in drawing and stuff, so I guess I can be able to make models. Who knows. I'm really interested in Modelling characters for Jedi Outcast and perphaps other games as well. :saberr::dmaul3::sprobe::sithm::holosid:

I use Discreet 3DS Max, but that's kind of an expensive option. Discreet also provides gMax which is free and is kind of a pared down version of 3DS max designed specifically for games:

I know a lot of game modelers that use MilkShape 3D because it's quite cheap ($20 I think) and it has a lot of community support:

There are many others (Maya, Lightwave, Softimage XSI) as well, but I can't really comment on those.
