Hi

I am unable to get my question answered at Rich Diesal's tutorials. I hope he didnt pull them down. I hope someone out there can help me...

In a SP map how do you add Waypoints and Point Combat points for NPC's (Stormtroopers, Imp Officers, etc). I tried the search function in this forum but it said it's disabled.

Thanks

Come back Rich Diesal.:deathii:

I noticed the site was down too....I doubt Rich took it down, possibly something to do with all the extra hits due to JK3 rumours? Just a stab in the dark...

OK, waypoints and point_combats are both done from the entity list, which you right click in the 2d view of the map to get. Point_combats are found in the 'point' subdirectory in the entity list. You may want to look at the show options for the editor, as both waypoints and point_combats can be set to 'not show' in the show menu and sometimes seem to be as default.

Rich Diesals NPC routing tutorial isn't exactly right. You don't connect waypoints to point_combats. What you want to do is create a network of waypoints so the regular NPCs like stormtroopers can move throughout a given level(floor). You can connect one waypoint to three others or one to one whichever way is necessary to complete the network. You place point_combats along side the waypoints in places where you think a NPC should stop to fight. Make sure you have enough for certain situations. If you do it right you'll find the NPCs are more intelligent than you think, they run after you, they'll flee when badly injured, they'll go get help and overall they'll be tougher to beat. I learned from observing how Raven did it with the kejim_post map. I recommend looking at that map and cairn_dock1.
