skinning question

I wanted to try to convert a AVP2 skin to JK2. I was able to extract the files from the .rez file. Now I have a handful of .dtx files which I can do nothing with. I need to convert the dtx to some other format such as tga. I've tried the Dedit tool and had no luck. It also came with a Photoshop plugin that doesn't work. Anyone have any idea's how I can do this?

Sorry man, Photoshop would have been my answer. I don't even know what .dtx files are...

dedit is your answer, you need to install the full avp2 toolset.

there will be a MS-Dos batch file call unrez, you have to run this file, it will unrez all the avp2 files to your harddrive.

all the models, all the skins, all the maps, the whole thing (it'll take you about 1 gig of hd space).

then run Dedit, open project, browse for a file called avp2.dep

normally it would be in C:\Program Files\Fox\Aliens vs. Predator 2\AVP2

this avp2.dep file is every single file used in the avp2 game packed into one project for the toolset.

all you need to do now is click on the tab textures in dedit, browse to the skinfiles you want to use and rightclick on the skinfile and choose export as TGA.

it's not a skinning trick it's a dedit trick, also considering that jk2 models are differently shaped your skin might look really odd if you just slap it onto any model, especially considering that the skinfiles are mapped differently.

I didn't figure it would be as easy as having the different body parts and slapping them onto a model but I figured I'd give it a shot anyways. I have Photoshop if I have some editing to do. Thanks alot for all the info! I'll have to get started on this skin. This doesn't seem like it's going to be a quick 30 minute project.
