Cel-Shading

I was just thinking about the perfect way to make Monkey Island 5.... Cel-Shading!

For those of you who are sitting there, scratching your head, eating your low-fat dairy products and saying, "Huh?", Cel-Shading is a new kind of technology that enables the game to be in 3d, but still maintain that cartoony aspect we all know and love. I mean, they're going to make it in 3d no matter how much we whinge about it, but at least with Cel-Shading we can keep some of the 2d magic that the fourth game lacked in a big way.

Some other games that have used Cel-Shading are Looney Tunes: Space Race, Sly Racoonus and Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf.

I think it would be a great substitute for the awful, blocky characters we saw in EMI, especially since Lucasarts aren't likely to make a new game in old technology, like everyone here seems to want.

What's your opinion?

I said almost the exact same thing once.

What I basically said once was that a lot ofthe new animated movies are done digitally in the computer now and most of the time, objects that look completely hand drawn and 2D but are actually 3D models made to look 2D. it could be used in a huge way for computer games, but no one has ever taken it on board because game developer are looking for realism more than anything so they don't go for it much.

I think they did go all the way for Sly Raccoon and i think that's the kind of thing we'd be looking for in MI5 (not the same style, the CMI style but done in this way)

here's a screenshot.
