yes... i did read the sticky! tried everything there, no effect.

I have a voodoo3 2000 on a PII 350. I installed JKII, ran it, got this error:

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

I downloaded WickedGL, put the quake 3 regular display drivers in teh folder after renaming to quake3.exe, then copied the opengl32.dll to the gamedata folder.

ran it again - the above error was gone but got an error saying that the openGL 32 subsystem thingy could not be loaded from C:\WINDOWS\system32\.

Any ideas what to do? anyone? i've pretty much tried everything... upgrading drivers and all. everyone else seems to be able to get it to work except me!

could it be the version of wickedgl i'm using? it's an old one i think - before the thing went shareware - Windows95/98/ME/2K Version WGL1B30

I did get it to start once (not sure what happened) but wickedgl popped up a msg saying that i was using the wrong drivers because of multiple texturing on my board or something when i'd installed single texturing drivers. not sure what this means...

sys specs-

win xp pro

pII 350 MHz

voodoo3 2000

192 MB RAM

if anyone has any ideas - PLZ - would be great... thanks :)

EDIT: the opengl i'm using is actually putting in an older dll than the one XP has. If it's possible, would someone possibly be able to email me the proper one that was installed by wickedgL?

thanks.

Have you tried messing with WickedGL settings like loading minimal software support, etc. Or tried GLDirect. A lot of people have confirmed success with it, but in all honesty a PII 350 MHz machine with a V3 2000 will be lugging to the point of crashing even with the lowest settings. My best suggestion is save some cash and build a pc that will run it.

P4/AMD 800MHz-3.84 GHz

256MB MINIMUM PC-133 Or Faster/More

GeForce 4/Radeon series cards

NO AUDIGY for sound. It is incompatible with JO.

WIN XP Pro or WIN2k or WinME

I have had success playing JO in the past but I haven't played in a while...at least since I went to XP. I used the Wicked GL program. I have since restructured by HD and all so I had to reload a new copy of JO. I tried the Wicked GL thing and it doesn't work now. I also cannot find this jk2config file anywhere. Neither can JO if you note the output I got below. BTW, I did put up the patches 1.03 and 1.04.

config:

AMD 1800+

512 of RAM

VooDoo 3dfx (yikes!)

Like I told Kuabutar, even if you get it working, the perfomance will be so terrible, especially in terms of looks and FPS, that it would be better just to get a new card. You can get great deals on pricewatch.com or Ebay. Got a GeForce4 Ti4800SE 128 MB DDR for $150

Thanks!

Today I've done some searching and checking stores around my area. It is exceedingly confusing with all the model numbers etc etc.

1) Is there a site or a thread here dealing with different cards? Which is best? Bang for buck? etc

2) I've encountered a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB at a store and online at Ebay. Is this good enough? It is far cheaper than the one you mentioned...

Thanks for all your help.

From my understanding the GeForceFX is the newest chipset, so the FX 5200 should do well for Jedi Outcast, after reviewing its specs.

GeForce FX 5200 Ultra

Graphics Core: 256-bit

Memory Bandwidth: 10.4GB/sec.

Fill Rate: 1.3 billion texels/sec.

Vertices per Second: 81 million/sec.

Maximum Memory: 128MB

the card I have now has this for specs

GeForce4 Ti 4200

Vertices per Second: 113 Million

Fill Rate: 4 Billion AA Samples/Sec

Operations per Second:1.03 Trillion

Memory Bandwidth: up to 8GB/Sec.

Maximum Memory: 128MB

But I recently ordered the Ti4800 SE 128mb DDR

which does this

GeForce4 Ti 4800SE

Vertices per Second: 125 Million

Fill Rate: 4.4 Billion AA Samples/Sec.

Operations per Second: 1.12 Trillion

Memory Bandwidth: 8.8GB/Sec.

Maximum Memory: 128MB

The card you brought up should do fine for Jedi Outcast.

Hello again

I went and got that ti4800 card you suggested (got a good price too) but I'm still getting this error:

The file it is looking for "System32/opengl32.dll" is, in fact, there. So why doesn't this damn thing work?

You still may need to update the video drivers to 41.29 or something like that. (available @ http://www.nvidia.com) Also, make sure that the Voodoo drivers have been UNinstalled. Also, try uninstalling Jedi Outcast after backing up any mods/models/skin and also use regcleaner to help uninstall it if necessary. Then reinstall, after updating the video drivers.
