CannibalBob
I have a Creative Sound Blaster Live! with all the latest drivers (and yes, they are the windows xp drivers, too) and when EAX is enabled in JK2, it at a random moment in time freezes and whatever sounds you were hearing continually repeat. The reset button must be used because windows xp locks up entirely. I haven't tried using EAX in windows up in Single Player mode, but I was trying out multiplayer mode and it locks up with EAX enabled. I know Windows XP is the source of the problem, because I played through the entire game in Windows 98 SE, and multiplayer too with EAX enabled. Is there a way to rectify the problem and stop the lock-ups with EAX still enabled? I like EAX it adds much realism.
spyder007
I had the same problem with my audigy. Its actually the file within jk2 that conflicts with the soundblaster EAX file you have to delete the jk2 file and it wont freeze. If I remember the file is called openal.dll and its in C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData. after that it will use your SB drivers instead for EAX and will work fine. Andy867
the Audigy and EAX has been found to cause hang-ups and lock-ups in Jedi Outcast, although the 1.04 patch was supposed to fix this. The best bet is to disable the EAX and just play with the default stereo sounds until Jedi Academy comes out.
LordEradicator
Thanks for pointing this out. It stopped JK2 from crashing on my machine.
CannibalBob
I renamed this file and enabled EAX. JK2 seems to run fine with no freezing... but I believe EAX says it's enabled, but it actually doesn't do anything (doesn't sound like it's actually on, even though it says so). I think OpenAL32.dll is the file that is required for EAX to operate, thus deleting this file disables EAX permanently, even though it's supposed to be enabled. Is this true, or is it just me?
