Does anybody know what programs where used back in the late 80s/early 90s to do background art and animation for games like monkey island, day of the tentacle and manian mansion? And what was windows called before Windows 95? I can't remember back that far. I think we had a black and white version of windows. Was it Windows 3.1? That sounds familiar...

Yes, it was Windows 3.1 before 95, though most computers also ran in DOS a fair amount of the time.

As for the background art, I imagine each developer had his/her favourite programs to use, but it was probably something professional or even in-house.

LMAO I remember DOS! we used to use it half/half with Windows. My BROTHER thought he was GREAT so HE used WINDOWS, but I hated it because it was full of straight lines and grey colours. SO I used DOS. Then he like, deleted DOS or something and we were FORCED to use Windows and I had this weird idea that Windows was at the heart of the computer and accessing it was like TOUCHING, THE, MOTHERBOARD, so I was afraid to press buttons. Then one day I went to use DOS again.

I cried. It was like visiting your child you put up for adoption years ago. It just sat there and stared at me, daring me to say something. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't say anything. How could I apologise? I didn't even know what her favourite colour was, or her favourite Operating System or anything.

So I said the most stupid thing I've ever said, in my entire life.

I said, "C:/ desktop"
