Shotokan
When do you create a brush into a detail brush and what exactly does it do? I've done it before and it made a brush totally invisible and I was able to walk through it. Can someone explain this to me?
lassev
Hmm. I don't believe you turned your brush into detail, if the process made it invisible in the game. Detail and structural brushes look all the same in the game, but only structural brushes have any function in the VIS process during compile, and consequently defining the areas the game engine draws in any viewing position during the game (regardless what the player actually sees). If a whole wall between two rooms is detail, both rooms will be drawn totally (even if the wall still blocks the other room from player's view), but if the wall is stuctural and without leaks, the other room will not be drawn, thus saving some precious FPS. Shotokan
Well when I click on " Make Detail " the brush just disappears in the 3D view thing. Yeah and the fps is kinda junk and is there another way I can make the fps better?
lassev
Hit control + D. You have the show detail switched off. This has no effect to the game. Lately, there has been much discussion about areaportals, some discussion about hint brushes, if you want higher FPS. Search the forums for them. And also make sure you have read the basic mapping tutorials.
Shotokan
O ok. I'll be sure to try that. Thanks.
