rgoer
Here's how I've gotten water to work. This is pretty much exactly the way it's explained on RichDeisal's page, but here we go, anyway: Make a brush that is the same size as the volume of water you want to have. Select this entire brush and give it the "system/nodraw" texture. I know RD's site recommends caulk, but I've gotten more predictable results with nodraw. Then, select just the top face of this brush and texture it with the water shader of your choice. The only one I've ever used is "bespin/water2" but I'm certain that they all work pretty much the same. While the top face is still selected, move the camera to such a place as you can see the bottom face (which should still be "nodraw" at this point), and then (if you've got three mouse buttons) hit ctrl+shift+mouse3 to give the bottom face the same texture settings as the top. If you don't have three mouse buttons, just select the bottom face and manually assign it the same water shader as you used before. Now when you compile, this brush should be full of water. If you have an irregular area of water that needs to be created, I've found it easier to use one brush that fills up the entire volume (even if it overlaps other brushes) than trying to create and join multiple water brushes. MAPSTER
ok I started to try that and I realised that I cant select the top brush cause I only have one big block of water are you supposed to have a hollow brush or something?
rgoer
No, no, no ;^) not the top brush--there is only one brush. You want the top surface of that one brush. The top and bottom surfaces are to be textured with the water shader. Got it?

MAPSTER
ok, I did what you said I gave my brush a nodraw texture and made the top and bottom sides a bespin water2 texture and It didn't work, then I put the water texture on all 4 sides and it didnt work then I tried it with the caulk texture on the inside and it still didnt work, and on all of them all I can see is an empty moat, hey its a moat and there are water brushes touching each other does that matter? rgoer
It sounds like you need to re-read RD's water tutorial a few times. Read it until you feel you really, really, really understand it. He makes it pretty clear, I think...
