Guest jigga
I think the starcraft egine would make this game look better. It would be less cartoonie. I was also wondering would they have to cut down the diferent races to three.
Paragon_Leon
there actually was a mod in the works for Starcraft - Star Wars. A total conversion thing. Look under banthatracks.com to find it somewhere. but about the engine: i think it would be EVEN MORE cartoony if it was done the Starcraft way. this allows for more grand-scale battles because of the viewpoint. and that's what we want. right ? Guest Tie Guy
What were you saying about cutting the races down to three?
Guest jigga
because starcraft has only three diferent races would they have to cut down on the races in gal battle.
Guest ZeroXcape
I personally love the SC engine. Some of it's scripting commands suck for making MP maps, but it's still a great all-around engine. If it was licensed out, I'm sure the # of civilizations could be anything. It's not limited to three.
Guest Tie Guy
Yeah, but i doubt they'll switch now. don't you think?
Lord JayVizIon
well, both engines are good in their own way. the starcraft engine presented a lot of strategy with the terrain alone (camouflage, bunkers, etc.) but it was good with a Pentium 90 machine only. AoE and swgb demand a better processor (more artistic work and honestly, the art in AoE was better than starcraft). the art in swgb will be better than starcraft's. if swgb could pick up somethings from starcraft, they did so with the air units and hopefully with camouflage (although i'm not sure about that). but hey, no one knew about camouflage in starcraft till you read the back of the box, so who knows!!! Lord JayVizIon
it's too late to switch now. they're already in the beta testing. anyhow, the AoE engine is a good choice. starcraft is good too, but i think AoE is better esp. if you want that graphic clarity to come out... Paragon_Leon
...and the scale, people. the scale. No matter how you put it, Starcraft always just seemed to have a bit less units.
Guest Tie Guy
what does having less units have to do with the scale?
Paragon_Leon
the scale of battle. intense as Starcraft-battles were, you never really had the feeling of massed armies. it was more like savaging squads.
Guest Tie Guy
Oh, ok. A Star Wars game should have that mass battle capabilities, that way you can create the epic battles in the movie. nother mark in the AOK engine colomun.
Guest Kayote
the SC engine is 3 1/2 years old man! blizzard (the company that made SC) never leases the games or game engines
Lord JayVizIon
the way blizzard sets their engine, only a dozen units can be under control at once (they try to focus on things other than the battles itself). so yes, scale plays a factor. this is apparent when you guys, if some of you, plan on checking out warcraft III, and that game will use a 3-D camera. blizzard doesn't lease their stuff b/c i don't really think anyone has asked them (unless someone can correct me). however, the AoE engine is the best choice, with the incorporatoin of air units.... gaber (lead programmer) did say that he wanted to emulate the epic battles from the movies. should be cool bushwacking people with the wookies..... Guest Telephius
they are both 2d art and the sprites were more than lilely just the artists style than the game engines bit in AOE and SC engines use 2d art I mean the type of pencil I use doesn't mean I ca or can noit draw manga/anime or disney style drawings. and the amount of races probaly isn't restricted too much by the engine the amount of units that can be handled is more engine dependent I beleive. Although for unit selection and all that could be modified the code isn't written digital stone, but in my opinion I would rather have the AOE engine just because it will mean its more like AOE2. Paragon_Leon
it's the very best choice for this type of game in my opinion. and they even enhanced it be expanding the flying birds from AOK into a complete air-unit feature

Lord JayVizIon
hopefully, the air units move as fluid as the ground units in AoK, but lucasarts knows a thing or two about air units (xwa, etc.) so i think they'll be okay. man, did you check out those new screenshots from yesterday?
