What the hell is the story with lunge damage???

A few days ago I joined a DarkSide server & tested out the lunge damage. It was 30. Yesterday I did the exact same thing only it wasn't 30 damage anymore, now it was 60 damage.

 

I joined some other basejk (I checked the fs_game, it was base) games & the damage was 30 on most basejk servers. Some of these servers I noticed were running JA out of the base folder (which is lame but in which case would make sense considering 30 is the default setting for JA lunges, however, not all of these servers where doing this).

 

I tested this out on about 5 or 6 different servers. Does anyone know what the hell is going on with this?

Timing

 

I've gotten nearly 100 out of lunge. Thats because they were stuck on the saber for awhile. I've experienced lunge doing 30 damage and 2 for ever like half a second afterwards(not sure the real measurement). Thats just on average.

If someone is stuck on it afterwards then it will be idle saber damage, which is 1 hp per second/hit.

 

You are obviously playing on a server with their damage set to 60.

Varies. Some base game servers do 30 damage, some do 60. That's what I am saying, it should only be 1 damage setting.

 

You can tell whether or not it is a base game or not by type "fs_game" in console, that will tell you if it is running out of a different folder, however, that does not mean it's not a server-side only modd'ed server. Someone can put JA in the base folder, which is lame but still can be done. This would also explain the 30 damage setting considering that is JA default, but there are other ways of telling whether or not it is that kind of server.

Lunge is weird.

Our server has always been base jk2 and yes it does 30 *and 60 at times.

 

As for Vulcan/JA mods I have no idea, but there is one thing I have noticed about lunges in base jk2 that’s odd.

 

 

Normally you would think 0 shields would result in more damage right?

 

well 9 out of 10 times when I've scored or been hit by a 60 damage lunge I or my opponent had the full (spawn) shield count of 25.

 

The lunges were also "face to face" as in the two models were both up against each other and both facing each other.

 

It seems like the lunge would "ramp" up twice and just shred my health and shields.

 

 

It's odd because I've tried to replicate that ^ and I never could.

 

To be honest though I think it’s just the saber damage system in general and not that one move.

 

Sometimes a heavy down swing is a one hit kill, some times it takes two.

 

Sometimes a DFA is a one hit kill; sometimes you walk away with 2 hp…

The damage of the yellow overhead strike (the REAL DFA :)) varies, I usually turn around when executing the move, so my saber hits my opponent even when he's walking. That way you'll do the most damage. But it depends on how long you touch the opponent, in what phase of the move you hit him etc..
