Yufster
I'm designing my very.... sixth.... videogame, you can see the promotional thread for it here. I would encourage all LucasForums members, especially those from the Harbor, to try AGS. It's similar to the SCUMM engine for building Adventure Games. You have to learn a fair bit of scripting that is similar to C++ (I have heard) But you pick it up like wild fire. Check out some of the amazing games made by other members and download it for yourself. It takes a while to learn but it's definately one of the best things I've ever done. For a few months. scabb
This looks pretty damn good actually. The backgrounds look great, the proposed non-linear DOTT/MI2 style gameplay is a winner, and the plot seems interesting too. Hopefully you can get down to piecing it all together, I want to see this finished. Definitely worth tying yourself to the computer for. I've played a few AGS games, most of them being sucky, but some being excellent. The bad ones usely go overkill on the gag-factor, or reference other games far too much and far too obviously. For instance, Calsoon is just not funny. Pleughburgh, however, which is whipped together by the same guy, is the best game I have seen made with AGS. Yahtzee is also great at these things, the Rob Blanc series and Odyseuss Kent are some of the best games I've played so far, and the slightly cruder Larry Vales games are also good. Anyway, good luck with the game, I look forward to playing it. Also, recommend me some other titles if you like. Not Night of the Hermit. That sucked. Yufster
I updated BTW. Yeah Pleughburg was excellent! It's one of the few games I've been able to SIT DOWN AND PLAY right through til the end, made on AGS. It was truly brilliant. Night of the Hermit was the most abominable piece of CRAP ever. Ripped off sprites, and the graphics were horrendous... could have been could, but weird and too spaced or something... like corridors a mile long.... I hate games that try to go for funny. People seem to think adventure games NEED to be HILARIOUS and ZANY. Any game with a title like "The Crazy Zany Adventures of Zoopy Zidane!" is bound to suck butt. With Beyond Reality I tried to make a game with a plot and a meaning, and humour came second to everything else. Once humour is forced, it's just not funny any more. Hopefully the humour in BR will be a little more natural, subtle and not as "LOOK AT ME! A JOKE! A JOKE!" as some other games. And yes, I have shamelessly taken on a very MI style for some areas (eg the Map and the Three Parts) but I like to call that influence I went and downloaded a BUNCH of old games before I made it to see what worked and what didn't. Like Universe and Escape from Delirium. Escape from Delirium was INCHES away from being equal to Monkey Island. It was obviously completely influenced FROM monkey island. But the first thing I saw was a spelling mistake, the writing was awful and the humour was forced out of their ass. The style was gorgeous though... Anyway, come, my friends! Download AGS! It's free, and Chris Jones is an angel! Do you want to speak to god? Then speak to Chris Jones, who is god, AND an Angel also!
