Hardware Question (Not "Can I run the game")

Recommended Posts

I've been doing research on computer systems, and I've got it narrowed down to two systems that are very similar on specs - the only real difference is the graphics card. One has a GeForce FX 5200 128Mb and the other has a GeForce4 Ti4200 128Mb. They are both about the same price (NZ$140), but I really don't understand the difference between them. Could anyone put it into easy-speak for me?

Also, what is the difference between the GeForce FX 5200 128Mb and the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 128Mb, besides an extra NZ$120?

Thanks in advance for any helpful techie that decides to help me out :)

Ah well, a friend of mine just got the FX 5200 128Mb, so I peeked at the manual and found out.

The FX series are made with DirectX 9 in mind, while the Ti's are 8. So the FX's outperform the Ti's on DirectX 9 systems. The Core speeds and Bus speeds are also different, but there is so much variation in both systems you can't just compare FX and Ti.

So, basically, FX is better than Ti :)

yes the Geforce FX 5200 is made with directX 9 in mind but overall the quality of the graphics card cant match the Geforce4 ti 4200. basically the GEforce FX 5200 will give u directX9 but it hardly has good enough specs to make use of it.

try this site http://www.geforcezone.com/ in the forums people will give u more info on graphics cards. they helped me a ton.

  • 4 weeks later...

Most all games run DX8 so why get a card that is made for a very limited number of games.

And don't think a GF4 card wont run a DX9 game. I got money my Ti4400 card will run crop circles around a FX5200 with out even raising a sweat.
