JO Crashing

My problem is kind of odd, I've looked through the forums but I haven't seen anything that quite describes my problem.

Firstly I have tried this on two seperate computers and I get the same problem from both computers. Also, I do have a legit copy of JK2, though I always use a burned copy to keep my original from getting scratched.

When I try to join a multiplayer game JO will usually start to load the map, however shortly after the screenshot is gotten after the map loads, the game crashes. Sometimes this also happens if I'm just trying to input a password into a game that is locked also.

Now, I've reformatted and used a fresh install of both WindowsXP and Windows 98, I've downloaded all of the most updated drivers for my video cards, my sounds cards, I've updated the VIA chipset drivers and the problem persists. The annoying thing is that it seems to have started for no reason at all.

My first computer

500Mhz AMD K6-2

256M Ram

FIC 503 Motherboard

Soundblaster Live

Netgear 10/100 Fast Ethernet

Dual Boot WindowsXP/Windows98

Radeon 7000 64M PCI

My second computer

900Mhz AMD Duron

256M Ram

Asus Motherboard (not sure of exact brand at this time)

Muse XL

Netgear 10/100 Fast Ethernet

WindowsXP

Radeon 9000 128M AGP

One of the real oddities of this problem is that if I uninstall JO

and reinstall and patch it to 1.04 the game runs fine the first time I run it. However if I close it and do something else, or if I reboot and try to play JO again, the problem comes back, it crashes as soon as I get into a game, or try to put a password into the pword field of a locked game.

I've tried using both my original JO cd and my burned copy of JO but the problem persists. I've even tried rolling back drivers to older updates when the newer catalyst drivers didn't solve the problem and still it persists... I don't understand why this is happening and I hope someone here will be able to help me. Thank you in advanced, if there is anymore information I can provide please let me know.

Do you have any programs running in the background? Also, have you tried lowering the video detail and running in like 800x600 resolution. Also, one thing to be considered is possible cpu heat and whether you have proper cooling... Possibly check the cpu fan to make sure it is providing sufficient cooling inside the case. Also, the amount of CPU speed and RAM requirements are a little more that what the 500 can handle, although its listed as a MINIMUM specs.

No programs are running in the background except what windows requires to continue running. Between 12 and 14 processes depending on wether or not I end tasks for savedump and a couple others.

My resolutions on both comps are set to 640x480 and everything else to the very lowest setting jedi outcast will let me set.

JO ran fine for the longest time on both computers, I've been playing since the game came out, the problem just started happening recently and even recreating my partition tables and formating for a new install of windows doesn't even seem to fix the problem T_T

Are you usually trying to load up a large map like Duel of the Fates? If so, you may need to increase the HunkMegs option... to do so, access the console (hold shift and press the ~ key next to the #1 on an english keyboard)

Then type: set com_HunkMegs xxx/2 where set com_Hunkmegs is the option to set, XXX is the amount of RAM you have, and the /2 to cut the amount of RAM in half.. so in others words, if I were to increase, I would type

set com_HunkMegs 768/2 or in reality

set com_HunkMegs 384

see if that helps.
