Our army is all volunteers, if I remember correctly. As for service, I find myself being sickened when I see a political add come on: from State Senate to the United States Senate, and from the Governor's race to the House of Representatives. Even in the Presidential ads, all I see is, to simplify, "The other guys is un-American/sucks (reasons inserted randomly), and I'm pro-American (reasons always inserted here). Vote for me, and not for the other guy."

I find it incredibly sad that we've reverted to smear tactics in order to help run the country (however, I'd argue that over half of Washington [thinking optimistically] is in it for the power).

Bread and Circuses seems to be welfare and television of today. The Federal Government is mandating that everyone switch over to High-Definition by February 19th. Welfare, though not an ample amount of money, still exists for those in need.

How might taxing the middle class keep the poor working? If anything, I was under the impression that FDR helped pull us out of the Depression by creating federal programs, which hired workers, etc. From what you're saying, I assume that FDR had other plans at work?
