Force Push/Pull "Bubble" not appearing...any help?

I think the only Force powers that should have visual and sound effects are ones like Lightning and Drain that actually need them. Push and Pull shouldn't have anything, unless the object collides with something, and then there should be a thud. Sense is probably the only neutral power that needs effects. Grip should not have any effects except for the victim choking. I reckon Mind Trick should have the Light Jedi shimmer out of sight without sound. Protect and Absorb might need effects perhaps. I've obviously missed some Force powers here, but you get the idea.

The only time the Force bubble might be useful, is if there was a Cripple power that worked by using the Force to cause the air (or water) to become extremely dense around a target effectively holding them in place for a while.

If anyone watches Buffy (the Vampire Slayer), remember when Willow used that spell on Glory to stop her from moving? There was a similar sort of lense effect in front of Glory for about a second and then she couldn't move.

The thing is that Raven and LucasArts probably figured that with force push and pull, you are warping/distorting the air, and they wanted it to be seen visually what you are doing.. And I THINK in Episode 1 aboard the Remote Droid Control ship, there was an air disturbance when Obi-wan pushed over those droids.

Okay, a Raven dev just posted in another thread how to fix the problem, once and for all.

The push/pull warp effect is totally new to Jedi Academy. It relies on some advanced video card features and so does not work on all systems. you can disable it with cg_renderToTextureFX 0 if you don't like it. The game will auto-disable this cvar on some systems that did not work correctly at the time of shipping. We hope new drivers will be available soon so you can reenable it at that time (if you choose.)

It was automatically disabled for my card, but I re-enabled it and not only does it work (and not look as bad as I expected, but in fact rather cool) but it doesn't impact performance for me in the least.

And now all you guys that don't have it know how to bring it up and see if it works, and all that don't, can finally remove it!

Mystery solved...

JCKenobi:

Okay, first when you are in the game, enter that code. Then exit.

Go to your /base folder (where you installed Jedi Academy) and see the file called jacfg.cfg.

Now copy that file and paste it in the same folder.

Now take the COPY that you just made and rename it to "autoexec.cfg."

Now open autoexec.cfg in word. Paste the console command in there on a new line at the bottom. Save the page (say yes if it asks to keep formatting).

Now every time you load the game, it will load THOSE OPTIONS (from autoexec.cfg) for you. You can edit the autoexec.cfg anytime and then it will always load those options.

I could be wrong (have to check my DVD's again), but I am fairly certain this effect was NOT seen in the movies. Rather, it was first glimpsed in the game "Jedi Power Battles" (for the Dreamcast & PC) as a cool effect to accompany a force push that Qui Gon did on some battle droids in the opening cutscene (which was really cool... too bad the game itself was mediocre and frustrating).

Most if not all of the visual effects associated with the Force Powers are totally non-canonical (lightning being perhaps the only exception), but that's okay. They are there to let you know what powers you are using (which is especially important in Multiplayer). Plus it's eye candy... so no big deal there.
