Skip through text in monkey 1?

Hi there!

 

You know how in the later monkey island games you can press the full stop button to skip through lines of text once you've read them, so you're not sitting around waiting for the piece of text to change...?

 

is this possible to do in the first monkey island? quite often I read through the short lines really quickly and have to sit there waiting for it to change. But if I turn the text speed up then I cant read through the longer lines in time?

 

Has anyone had the same little problem? is there a monkey1 equivalent of the . key?

I was always lead to believe it was the . button, but if that doesn't work, click the right and left mouse button at the same time to skip through dialogue.

escape button me use
