SpartaZx
My fps in ja has been pretty bad. averaging about 90 but when someone push/pulls me the animation it drops my fps 60 in a split second. This fps is very bad considering im running a radeon 9800 pro 128mb on 800x600 low graphics (i should be able to run alot higher[i get 150 fps in ET at 1024x700 highest graphics/detail and 350 fps constant in quake 3 1024x700 highest graphics/detail]) I can live with the 90 fps but I can't play with the 60~fps drop when someone push/pulls me or I push/pull someone. Is there a console command to turn off these animations? My machine Amd 2500+ [b core] radeon 9800 pro 128mb [newest catalyst driver] 512 pc3200 ram

Kurgan
cg_renderToTextureFX 0 The push/pull warp effect is totally new to Jedi Academy. It relies on some advanced video card features and so does not work on all systems. you can disable it with cg_renderToTextureFX 0 if you don't like it. The game will auto-disable this cvar on some systems that did not work correctly at the time of shipping. We hope new drivers will be available soon so you can reenable it at that time (if you choose.) by emorog (James Monroe of Raven Software) You also might wish to run the system analyzer program that came with JA and run all the tests in advanced setup to make sure you don't get any errors. If you do, you may need to update (or downgrade) your video or sound drivers or install the latest DirectX. Also, uninstall the demo if you're using the full legal version. Astrotoy7
90 fps isnt anything shabby. Dont forget any movie you go watch is between 25 and 30 fps. Switch that damn dynamic glow off to begin with, thats usually the killer, and apply the command Kurgan mentioned above. Sometimes turning video sync off helps too, but this can make things look bad. I mentioned this in another post, but the optic nerve is incapable of properly processing anything over ~150fps, so you better utilise you pcs resources to go for higher rez fisrt, then all the added stuff later to make it look snazzy. ThexyDwagin
FPS in film and computer terms is positively, absolutely incompareable. In film its a whole screen at once drawn. In computer's its latches the rate to the refresh-rate of the monitor. Which is drawn from top to bottom. Faster each frame is drawn top to bottom, the better it works. Most human eyes cannot pierce 72Hz, but some people with good reaction times can see through even 75-85Hz.. but they are few and far between. The Verticle sync times the frames per second to this rate, to avoid the stutter that is caused when two or more frames are drawn too slowly, due to motion of the cursor/toon. Ideally its good to get a rock-solid refresh rate, so it can be properly tied to whatever the minimal refreshrate your eyes can handle without piercing the refresh. (See live telecasts of computer monitors and you'll see precisely what is caused. Like on the news, how they flicker etc.) But the best two things you can do for the radeon at this point is get 3.6 catalysts, and switch off Dynamic glow and dynamic lights.
