Ernil
Oh Dassie. on top of that, i agree that some songs have more complex and unique vocals than other songs, however it really only makes a difference when you're talking about actual music and nursery rhymes. It only makes a difference when you're talking about actual music? So it makes a difference. A big one, at that. when some songs have more unique and complex vocals, maybe somebody doesn't want to listen to a song that is very complex. perhaps they like simpler songs. There, you're taking from the fact rubric and mixing it with opinion rubric. So what if you don't want to listen to it, it's still a superior song. This spoken of person doesn't like superiority, but that's his opinion. and what's the rubric for saying that a song is more complex than another song? Because no one has made it doesn't mean that it couldn't exist, and parts of it already don't exist. couldn't that really be an opinion too? no you can't really take any kind of measurement system to say that one song is more complex and unique than another song. Of course you can! Take, for example, the Pop Punk Rock Rage of today. There is a basic norm for these songs that the writers strive for. It is no longer unique, or complex. Often times, it is basic guitar cords, a repetative melody, and harmony a simple few notes up that follows the same pattern as the melody. This is, factwise, inferior and too overdone. I know this, factwise, because I've written harmony to songs before. I can, with no effort at all, write the harmony I spoke of a few lines ago. I do it regularly - in the car, napping, or watching a movie. I can now do it without even thinking. I have also been given the task of writing harmony that is, factually, more complex. It takes actual thought, hours of time, but comes up with a more unique, skilled, complex sound. There are some tunes floating around out there that are so basic, I've seen skilled guitar players learn them in mere seconds. I spend so much time around guitarists that I practically study them. Here is what I see: There are some tunes, greatly over-used and over-known, that any guitar player in the world can play. Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit. I have observed some people learn this song, and others like it, in mere seconds. I have also observed some guitarists write and invent tunes equal to this one without the use of his brain - it can just flow out of the fingers. On the other hand, there are some songs that are so thoughtful, inspiring, thought provoking, and unique, that they can send a shiver down your spine. These are tunes that 90% of the musicians in the world could not play, or dare not try. To write something this beautiful would gain the write self-acualization. It has never been done before, and nothing quite like it will be done again. Take, for an awesome example, the song "Guyute" by the band "Phish." Listen from 3:00-4:39. That is one and a half minutes of guitar, bass, piano, and drums in brilliant, unique harmony. It would be hard to play, hard to write, and is similar to nothing else they or anyone else has written. Factually, it is superior to much other stuff. When picking apart this post, remember the difference between the fact rubric and the opinion rubric. RicardoLuigi...
okay. you know what? i'm getting a little f*cking tired of talking about good and bad music. my music is worse than yours because your music that you listen to has much more movement and more complexity and all this other s*** that really doesn't matter. i don't care whether the music you like is more complex. if its more complex, fine. then why the hell are you posting in this thread? just let it go. i admit that my music is not as good as yours because you have better musical taste than i do. i think that it's very unfair that you have to post that your music is better than mine, i'd just like to be able to post a thread where i can state my opinion about something without someone saying that my opinion is awful, that i am a complete moron when it comes to whatever, or that what they think or what they like is better than what i think or what i like. i'm sick of this s***. if you don't like the song, fine. say you don't like it. but please don't say that you have better musical taste than i do, that i don't know the first thing about music, that i haven't listened to enough music to know what i do like, or that some songs are better than others because of complexity or anything like that. i hate how all the time i can't just say something without someone acting like they're a step above me and then squashing my down to the ground and demeaning me and what i like and saying all this other stuff that basically takes away from the thread and just pisses me off. alright. i'm done. can someone close this thread and the beyonce thread? Ernil
Hey Das! YOU SUCK!!!!!! I HOPE YOU DIE BECAUSE YOUR MUSIC SUCKS!!!! Here's why it sucks - 1) You suck 2)It's all bad! SO ARE YOU! Lets compare music and decide who's is better Christina vs. Weezer I WIN I WIN I WIN YOU SUCK HWAHAHAHAHA SUCKER YOU SUCK I'm the best ...wait a sec. That didn't happen! Dassie, what I am doing is proving a theory that is not well known or accepted in this world. It's a little theory Dana has been pondering, and it got me thinking. I figured now and here would be the best place to put it. I never said that you should change your opinion because of this, or that what you think is wrong. I simply stated facts. You assume I insinuate more than I do.
