lauser Posted April 3, 2004 Posted April 3, 2004 Yeah maybe Wade can answer this one. I'm doing a JK2 map and since no one goes into the JO forum anymore I thought I'd post here. I fire up GTk for JK2 and the LAVA texture will show up but, it's not a shader. I talked to 3 other mappers and the same thing is happening to them. What's going on???? The shader is there. The texture is there. Is this happening to anyone else? If so, why? Please give a quick test and reply back here if you have the time. Thanks in advance [edit]Hmm..I think it's a corrupt shader somewhere from a custom map..I'll be dammed if I can find it though.[/edit]
WadeV1589 Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 I'm honoured you think I can help but alas I cannot. I don't have JO installed nor do I know where the CD is to re-install! If the lava is broke though then it may indeed be a bad PK3...however someone should post the correct path here shortly and try typing it in manually into the texture inspector and if it still fails it certainly is a PK3 where someone has include bad shaders/textures.
GothiX Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 Raven never used a shader, they used a texture on a nonsolid func_train.
Druid Bremen Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 Lol! No wonder I had problems using the lava shader in JK2!
WadeV1589 Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 Why the hell did they do that? In EF they had lava and seen as JO was built from EF they surely could've just used their older shader.
GothiX Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 I have no clue as to why they did it, really. Raven moves in mysterious ways.
zag Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 maybe someone else working on the map didnt know about the shader...
lauser Posted April 5, 2004 Author Posted April 5, 2004 Okay I found the solution. The lava has a NO TEXTURE box but still works ingame..strange Func_train? Where is this coming from Gothix?
Jlowry1974! Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Don't laugh guys but umm.. is there a difference between a texture and a shader, I thought they meant the same thing and it was a figure of speech.
WadeV1589 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Texture = just that, an image that appears in game as is. Shader = file that specifies the properties of a brush/surface ranging from nonsolid to sky, lava to water and so on.
