Crow_Nest
There are 2 possible reasons for this: 1. Its your 9000, that card does not support the latest OpenGL nor DirectX 9.0. Your only hope now is to download the latest drivers to see if it still works. 2. I also had sounds coming from speakers in games like UT2003/2004. It is usually caused by when the motherboard overheats and the sound is just a warning, it stops the game and you gotta reboot. You can clean your motherboard fan, just got mine cleaned not long ago, didnt clean it for a year and it was choked with dust and dirt. Get a bigger heat sink/bigger fan or play with the CPU casing open.
CortoCG
I used to have that very same problem with different hardware. It turned out to be the video card overheating badly for lack of maintainance. Do as Crow says and clean all the fans and the heatsinks on your pc. A clean pc works better and cooler than a dusty one.
Crow_Nest
If you open the CPU casing and cleaned your fan and it still hangs with the sound, then put a fan near it while running the game. WARNING READ FIRST: Putting certain kinds of fans too near a CPU without a casing could cause it to get damaged and sometimes permenent. If you start to see flickering on your monitor or if it flashes after every few seconds, do not hesitate to switch off the fan
