Can one mesh have two skin modifiers?

Errr... I got and idea. Why don't you try? You're not a n00b, you're a veteran now, so try it out and get back to us telling what you found out :D.

And the answer is no.

 

Never mind, I simply put both mesh under the same skin modifier. I had a little problem making the feet bones not weight the other feet, but it's ok now ^_^

 

The skin modifier can be a bitch.

Right, never apply the same skin modifier to different surfaces. All you'll get is a mess, all the surfaces will have all the bones on the list, making your life a living mess.

The other way can be slower at the beginning, but it's neat and clean. Assign a different skin modifier to each surface.

 

PS: Now that I think about it, you always did that :\.

It's quite different really. If I would apply one skin modifier for each surface, it wouldn't look good, cuz it would create little yet destructive holes.
