quick question about upgrading to xp?

my ME systems has finally reached the end of the road, so i'm gonna take the opportunity yo finally upgrade to xp, but i have a minor problem... i can't find my ME cd anywhere (it WAS a legit copy btw :D )

I really don't want the hassle of a clean install, as i have a fair bit of stuff on there that would be a pain to find again. S i need to do an upgrade.

Anyway, my questions:

(a) If i get the Upgrade version, will i need the old CD or Number to install the upgrade? I know i'll need it for a clean install, but what if im just upgrading?

(b) If i get the Full version, can i still do an upgrade, or only a clean install?

If anyone can answer this i'd appreciate it...

Umm.. This is totally without research, and it's been a while since I've delt with XP off the shelf like that..

From what I remember, the upgrade will work fine as is. Unless you need to reformat for some reason. Then I would assume you would need your ME disc, format, reinstall ME, and then upgrade to XP.

With a full version, I'm pretty sure you can choose between an upgrade or clean install.

It's been years since I've delt with Windows 9x -> NT :/ So, take everything I just said with a grain of salt.

you can install it over your old files. Like you can do a basically clean install on your system still keeping the files you have on your drifve. I think (keyword think) that you do need your old cd to do the upgrade, but I'm not sure. The best thing is to just get the full version anyway. You can just install XP onto you HD without losing your old files. I myself just backedup all my files onto an old computer, and did a fresh install of XP Pro.
