NCS Files -- what are they?

I've been messing around with Talchia's Padawan Mod. Mostly I've been modifying the dialog, to correct spelling errors and give the introductory scene a lot more depth, but I also want to restrict all the "stuff" you get when you start the game.

The dialog is in end_trask01.dlg, which determines what class you start out as and what color lightsaber you start with (the scripts are triggered from the dialog choices) but it seems as if the "giving of the items" is handled in one of the other files, which come to play as soon as the character gets up in the Taris apartment.

All of these other files are .ncs files -- what can I use to look at those and tweak them?

I'm pretty new at this whole modding thing, and the search function is disabled on the forum, so I apologize if this question has been asked before.

You can decompile them if you want to look at them but the info you will get will be very limited (at least you will be able to figure out the main functions ) . You can either doulbe click on the file with Kotor tool or use hazrdx script compiler/decompiler. Check the Guide for the Newbie in the Stickies for more info.

For more info on .ncs files and if you are interested in figuring out the "chinese" part of a decompiled script, you can also check torlack's website: http://www.torlack.com/index.html?topics=nwndata_ncs

And I just wanted to inform you as well that you cannot release a modified padawan mod without the permission of the author.

Try downloading my Padawan mod. I included all of the source code so that others wouldn't have to try to make heads or tails out of compiled scripts. My mod is pretty much based on Talchia's so you should be able to apply the concepts from one to the other.

Er... I hadn't really planned to release anything, but that is good to know.

Thanks for the info Achilles. I'll take a look at your version.
