custom skeleton for 3ds max

howdy im using 3ds max 4 and im making a metal gear rex model its done i just need to figure out how to make a skeleton and assign parts of the mesh to each of the bones so that i can animate it and be one step closer to being finished i know how to do it with milkshape but you cant use that for JA help me, help me please!
