Map creation assistance request

How would you like to help out your fellow modders by helping create maps for use with Kotor Tool? It isn't especially hard and it is very rewarding knowing that you're helping others.

 

Requirements:

  • GMax or 3DSMax installed
  • NWMax import tool installed
  • SW: KotOR
  • Kotor Tool

 

It takes about an hour or so per map, assuming your skill level is as poor as mine with the Max programs. :) A skilled Max user could whip through the process in less than half an hour, I'm sure.

 

Basically, one needs to extract the various models that make up a map, import them into the 3D app, then assenble the pieces to recreate the map model. I will perform the rasterization and map-to-data alignment process.

 

I can provide detailed instructions to those with serious interest.

Send me the instructions Fred. I may not be the most adept at trying to develop something new but if you have step by steps I have the patience and the drive to be helpful.

Do I have to use the games models for this process or could I use my own?

 

Also could I use my own textures?

 

And could I add my map as a visitable planet?

 

I am very interested in this idea. I'd like to make a Hoth or Naboo

map/planet.

 

I've been using Max for about 6 years and have never modded a game thats uses max of map creation. This is very exciting!

Let me field this real quick here. What were doing or he want's help with is importing the ingame map models to try to make it easier in area making. right now I believe we are still going to be limited to in game models for map making. correct me if I'm wrong here Fred.

Indeed, you are correct. Since creating a new map from scratch requires data that we don't yet know how to generate, like that which determines what part of the model you can and cannot walk on, we're limited to models already in the game.

 

What people would be doing is helping me by re-assembling the parts of a map, (basically, they took the model for a whole level and broke it down into 10-15 sub-models), then sending me the .max file for me to process for use in the Module editor in Kotor Tool.

 

:USA:Hefe(I), if you have that many years of experience, you could probably crank these out in no time at all. Your assistance would be appreciated by many modders here!

Ok I see what your sayin is you need the games maps re-assemdled right?

 

I'd be glad to help just give me insturction on which files to extract.

 

Then I could put them back together for ya!

 

Then would you just want a 3ds file of the re-assemdled meshes?

 

I guess PM me.
