EmperorNemesis
How would I go about creating a darker texture for the PC version of Darth Malak's armor ? I never tried skinning the original Kotor, but I'd like to start. I've not been able to find one on this forum. But if I've missed it, could someone point me to a tutorial on skinning Kotor 2? I understand the actual editing the texture part, I just need to extract/replace the actual skin. Thanks.
Jackel
Get a copy of Fred Tetra's kotor tool and look in the erf files for the texture (Dont know it sorry, havent got kotor2 yet...). extract the file as a tga file type. OPen up in your editing software (paintshop, photoshop etc) edit to your hearts content. When replacing the in game file just drop the tga file in to your Override folder and the game will automatically use that file rather then the compressed one. Any more q's just ask! EmperorNemesis
Thanks for your response, while the KT doesn't seem ENTIRELY combatible with Kotor 2, as is it gives me a bunch of crazy error messages, it still opens the game files. Now just the matter of finding the texture file, can anyone with TSL help me find the file? I'm not experienced at identifying texture files. Edit: If no one can find the file I'm looking for, then how do I search for TPC files in Kotor Tool?
RedHawke
Malak's armor texture... I believe the texture you are looking for is PFBM05.tpc with KT convert it to PFBM05.tga and edit to taste.
EmperorNemesis
Aha! It is! Thank you, RedHawke.. geez. These skins are more detailed than I realized. Ah well, off to skin! Edit: Agh! It won't load my new skin! In-game, it just displays the Old Malak's armor texture! I re-skinned it, put it into the override folder and started a new game, but when I get it through the console, it's boring old Malak's armor! Do I need to put it back in tpc format? AiluraKnight
How do I figure out which .mdl and .mdx files go with this armor? I wanted to edit it further but I'm having some trouble Once I'm done I'll post it for download, this is my first attempt at modding
EmperorNemesis
I don't beleive model editing in TSL is possible yet. Though I may have heard wrong. I'm having enough trouble getting this cursed game to register a simple texture change.
RedHawke
^^^^ Unless your texture is in the proper format, the game has problems with it. It saved as a 32-bit .tga, I can't remeber the rest... Originally posted by AiluraKnight How do I figure out which .mdl and .mdx files go with this armor? EmperorNemesis
A question, does the qualitiy of the texture I extracted from the game files matter? There is no difference in file name for these, only the directory in the KT. Do I have to put high-medium-low textures in respective path in the override folder? Not really, the texture packs are low (really small size 128X128) for low end machines, medium (256X256), and large (512X512). Though there are no differences in filename, the game uses the texture pack specified in your options. But the files in override no matter their size, take precidence over everything. I always edit the larger high resolution textures, they are the easiest, if necissary you can reduce them later, after editing. Originally posted by Arkkonis Do I have to put high-medium-low textures in respective path in the override folder? No, whatever is in override will "override" the normal game files. Also make sure your filename is correct that could also be the culprit for why your skin isn't showing.

NOrmally the rest of us just mod the high res texture and drop that in to override and it works in game .... Dont know why your one didnt work .. all I can say is double double check the name of the texture, maybe open up your modified one, resave it and see if it works. EmperorNemesis
Grrr, tried resaving it three times, each as a 32 bit targa (tga), it's high res and I've made SURE it has the right name. The game just doesn't seem to accept the texture! And I KNOW it's not my game because I'm also using your Exile Pack RedHawke, which I'm pretty sure contains custom textures. Ugh, this is frustrating.
RedHawke
Have you tried the armor with your new texture on both male and female PC's? EDIT: This is partially my fault... you see the robes in the game all use the Female texture, so I assumed it would be the same, but it seems the Armors still have a Male texture so... I just looked and the armored robes indeed have male textures too, so you will have to rename a copy of your new texture to PMBM05.tga as well as the PFBM05.tga drop both of those into your override and try it out. And in the future it is a good idea to test these things on both sexes of PC.
EmperorNemesis
Aha! So THAT was what's wrong! I hadn't been aware that they used seperate textures. Thanks for your help (again) RedHawke.

I remember having to modify both textures when ever I did a skin so unless OE have figured out how to use one texture then He will have to redo all his hard work on the PMBM05.tga.... Nope, we caught a break on those Jackel, the new armored robes, Model M, are exactly the same textures! Just like the games Jedi robes, Model I... The thicker Jedi robes, Model N from what I see, don't even have Male Textures, they all use the female ones.
