[TSL] New saber model problem

Recommended Posts

Just finished modeling a new saber for TSL, I've gotten all the way to assigning my model to the old model's dummy. Then I click on "resetxform" in the nwmax window, the modifier stack blinks but it does not become an ArouraBase, as I think it should, judging by the tutorials I've read.

Without this modfier I can't export, if anyone has an idea where I might have gone wrong I'd appreciate the help.

After you ResetXform, did you link your model to the dummy?

Ok, I resetXform, linked it again, still no change in the modifer list, and the export window in gmax is not offering mdl as an option.

Sorry if I'm missing something, first timer. :/

NP man :)

after you resetXform and link the dummy. Goto file and "Select All". When you export, you need to export from the NWMAX window, not from GMAX's fileset. That will definitely give you probs.

It's underneath the general tab as well, also if I'm not mistaken the nwnmax window should disappear and one will open to the right and you export from there. atleast thats how it works on mine.

do what chainz said first thoe, my computer has a certain personality quirks hasn't been memory wiped in a long time.

Thank you Chainz and Arlen, it exported and replaced with no problems. Just checked it out in game, no crashes even :), but I don't dare post any pics of it until I can get it skinned.

Thanks again you two, couldn't and have done it without you.

Happy to help out! I'm glad to see you got it to work :)

And thank you... you were my 1,000th post w00t! You get a cookie :D

Oooh, cookie. :D

Well I'm working on the skinning now. I took a screenshot of my uvw map unwrap in gmax, threw it into a new document in Photoshop, and started painting.

Saved the tga into my overdrive, went back in game and... no textures. I'll keep working on it tommorow, for now I'm off to bed.

A new day, but I'm still stumped. Aside from the mdl, mdx, tga (saber skin), and txi do I need any other files for the model to show the new texture?

Good afternoon! :D

Alot of the problems you're having I had discussed with ShadowBlaze in this thread:

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=145640

The 1st two pages discuss in length about how to Hex edit a model to recognize your custom skin, If you're familiar with MDLOps, or even if you're not ;) skip to page 3 and look at the "quick & easy" method using cchargin's MDLOps program. He's really made it easy for us to overcome this hurdle...

If you have any questions afterwards, feel free to post them in this thread or the other and I'm sure we'll be able to help ya' out :D

Good Luck!

Chainz I don't know how to thank you, texture is in game, just tweaking the alpha channel now, then I should have some pictures up.

And now for your viewing pleasure, my first lightsaber model:

Not much to look at, but this was more of a test run than anything. It's currently replacing the blue lightsaber, I think , I may be making it into a custom i.e. seperate model, we shall see. Given all the help you guys have given it shouldn't be too difficult. :)

That's a pretty fine looking saber ya' got there my friend!

Sure beats those silver tubes huh? ;) hehe

Keep up the great work man! It won't be long now before we can kiss those boring sabers good bye, for good :dev11:

And no need to thank me my friend, I think all of us will agree, purging those god-awful Bioware sabers from our game will be more than enough thanks :D
