kasimmorathi
In my opinion, it would be simple good business practice for a company to release modification tools. Granted, they likely take JA as a reason to not release modifications, the ability to prolong a games' lifespan only encourages it to sell copies. We all get bored with the same storyline, the same items, the same everything, its why most people are here to begin with. But given their reluctance to do so, most here have resorted to other means in order to modify. So what we get, for the most part, are competent coders, designers and skinners, helping to narrow the released items into the worthwhile category, rather than having to sift through thousands of shoddily made modifications. I, for one, see merits and downfalls to each argument.
Baadu Apprent
Eh, the point of this whole message is , why not find out from Lucasarts? Is it possible for Lucas Arts , to allow modding if the groups in question who wishes to mod follows their strict guidelines (Limits,rules,etc..) for that said creation . Simple ,this has little to do with how people feel about the final product of Kotor 2.( I know people are upset and want to complete the game on there own through modding)If there exist a level of tolerance now for the mod releases for kotor , it would be even better to improve that relationships with the company . If that relationship improves then this will reinforce that the Kotor mod community will not end up like Jedi Academy mod community . Then only support mods that follow those guidelines layed down by Lucas Arts and the developers . Now to the other off topic question about Kotor 2 , we all know that the game is incomplete and the fans are very upset by it .Unless we take some initiative to improve that relationships between the modding community of Kotor and Lucasarts then we cannot really complain about it .If they tolerated us for this long then we have a good chance of making progress with them and furthering that trust. Darth333
Originally posted by Baadu Apprent Eh, the point of this whole message is , why not find out from Lucasarts? Because we already have a peaceful relationship with LA. Why would we start bothering them with petitions and others? To get what? modding tools? That ain't gonna happen for the reasons explained in my post above...the only results I can foresee in regard to modding would be either statu quo or negative results. When you say: Why not expand the modding tools then ? make it legal and make those rules offical. You mentioned Bioware and Obsdian as I said before both these company pretty much gave birth to the modding community for role playing games. In business there are no friends, just partners. As I said above, Star Wars is a pretty valuable license and LucasArts wants to protect it and avoid incurring any liability in regard to modding Kotor. They have no interest at all in entering into an agreement of any sort where they would waive certain rights. This modding community has been pretty respectful of LA and we intend to keep it that way. In any event, this has already been overly discussed in the past...just use the search function...Furthermore, this thread has nothing to do with the technical aspects of modding kotor. Now, one of my favorite modders, Jackel, alway says that lawyers are evil...I'm going to honor this reputation and close this thread...
