Kurgan
Posted this same message over at the LucasArts RC forums, for all the good it will do there... I just got done playing on a CTF server that had instant spawn items (ie: pickups respawn instantly after they are grabbed, always, forever). Basically what this means is you can stand on a health pack, and it will give you full health everytime you are hurt. Sure you can still be killed, but this is silly. Camp a healthpack to stay alive. Stand on top of a Grenade Spawn: you'll get 5 grenades in 1 second. Stand on it and you can have infinite grenades. Essentially on this game we had two teams, every single person on each side had the AA and a full load of grenades. This made the game pretty boring. Look guys, LucasArts set the default settings of the items taking TIME to spawn, for a reason. Because that way you can't just camp an item to have infinite ammo/health/grenades/whatever. Just imagine any other FPS game if you could simply camp and item to have infinite ammo and how that throws off the entire balance of the game. Normally you can pickup an item ONCE, then you have to wait 30 seconds to a minute for it to appear again. So you can't just stay rooted to the spot and never have to coordinate or strategize one bit. This isn't the fault of the game, it's the fault of Server Hosts who thoughtlessly put in this setting so that items respawn instantly. The same server (which will remain nameless) also had respawn delay for players. This setting, unlike in SW Battlefront where you have a "countdown" before you can respawn (Jedi Academy Siege has the same feature), you simply have to pound the fire key like mad until you appear, because you don't know when it will be ready, 1 second, or 30 seconds from now. Auto Team Balance is another setting that all team based servers should have. It's just common sense. But Instant Spawning Weapons is just a bad, bad, idea. Unless you want to play Rocket Arena with Grenades, I guess. The game is new, but I wish some server hosts would use more common sense. This is akin to the Force Regen Time 0 thing in JA/JK2! PS: I never use this setting on my server (the default makes you wait for pickups to respawn), and I recommend all server hosts do the same, dedicated or not. TK-8252
Yeah, and on that one CTF map on Kashyyyk with that big bridge between the two bases, with instant item respawns, it turns into thermal/anti-armor/rocket wars, because everyone is loaded with explosives. It's so silly. No one's going for the flag; they're too busy blowing themselves up with infinite explosives.
Nokill
its the JASA server it makes it all to easy for me
BeBop
I'm growing tired of server(s) like that. All anyone ever does is rush to get the best weapon, and then everyone has it. It makes it impossible to get the flag or even make it out of your base sometimes... on either of the Kashyyyk maps you can't hear anything but explosions. Also in one server like that, FF is on which I'm normally all for, but when everyone has rocket/AA/Greande I keep getting killed mainly by my teammates. Kurgan
From here. The owner of the server posted on the LA forums and said in reply: JASA-Chosen Total Posts: 34 Member Since: 09/04 Date Posted: Mar 21, 2005 03:43 PM EDITED BY JASA-Chosen: Mar 21, 2005 03:49 PM Yes you are talking about our server. I am not the one that set it up our server company did. VSK. They made the standard settings and I been to busy working to start messing with the configs. I changed the cvar to set the weapon regan back to default. I'm surprised and pleased! Thus I replied: KurganJKnet Total Posts: 106 Member Since: 01/03 Date Posted: Mar 21, 2005 09:05 PM JASA-Chosen, thanks for fixing it! I didn't want anyone to take offense, so I didn't name the server. I figured whoever set it up didn't realize how crappy that setting was. Hopefully other admins will follow your lead!
