RougeTheBat
OK I have a problem with it, right now all I can do is show how to make the model using TEXPORTER and PHOTOSHOP 6, I need to know if phototshop offers a free version... I think I heard about this once. If not I will simply show how to do it with paint shop pro, but I really like that Photoshop makes the alsph for you automaticly I also need to know if there is a person who would tell me if my info here is correct add modifier unwrap uv. hit edit. get the layout you like. take screenshot of unwrap layout. open paint program. open new graphic of map window, cut out garbage. resize to proper dimensions. paint. is this right... are there any actions that need to be added? I would like to know how the user knows what size window they should be painting in. does it matter as long as it will be the right size for the game? I personally use texporter, I really wish there was a version for GMAX.
RougeTheBat
answering my own question... this will alos appear in my tut. but more complete and detailed First you make your sabre.. once happy with it and you are ready to export to a useable model, time to texture. add a add a unwrap uvw modifier. Get the layout you want by using the diffrent types of mapping or uv packing, (this will be explained quite a bit more in my tut.) make sure none of the poly pieces are touching the darker blue edged lines. once happy, press print screen open the paint program that you use, go to edit and paste as new selection (under photoshop 6 go to file and create new image... it will have the correct proportions already, and then paste into the new field) use your rectangle selection tool and cut the square out of the screen shot... you will be able to tell where to cut because amongst all the other blue lines there will be a darker blue square... look for it and you will see it. cut as close to that edge as is possible. now cut or copy. paste as new image, I personally then close the printscreen shot. Now do whatever you want on the painting, I suggst getting rid of the lines first and getting the lines as sharp as possible, paint a part, save it as a tga. now go back to your gmax/3dsmax open your material editor. click the first ball up in the window. now look down and find a spot that says diffuse there will be a little box next to it. push the box/button. when the dialog pops up choose bitmap, check the dialog at the bottom for filetype and make sure it is set to tga. get you file and select it. drag the ball that now has your texture attached to it to the model inside of the perspective window. under the balls there will be a icon of a little cube with a checker board pattern and the dialog attached when hovering is something like show texure in window. press it. you will now see what and where you painted. repeat the step for painting and saving and you should see the changes as you paint and save in the perspective view. I realize this is pretty much unreadable at this point this is just a sampleing and not well written i know. I wrote this in 5 minutes and took no time for correcting. I just wanted to show that I was making progress. The final version will be much clearer and more defined. tutorial time to completion... has gone up to probably a month from the original date started, honestly I recently picked up SW galaxies along with JTL, and am loving it. I have never played on a MMORPG before and am impressed. if any of you folks play and are on galaxy ahazi, look for Zhe'ya Sela, twi'lek.
T7nowhere
I just wanted to remind you that the information that you are putting in your tutorial has been covered in other tutorials Here . If you already know this then I am a little confused, Do you think that there is a gap in knowledge amongst those tutorials. If so, Perhaps it would be better to just focus on what has not been discussed. There is no point in reinventing the wheel every couple of months
RougeTheBat
I had asked whether or not to create this tutorial on the message boards up here, and I was told effectivly more the merrier. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=146943 the reason I want to do this is because I do feel there is some things I can share to make what already exist not only easier to use but I also want to bring all of the info up to date as completly as I can. It's not that the info isn't available it's simply spread out in many diffrent peoples own words and much of what is available is often needing a fresh coat of paint. I am hoping to make a tutorial that no one will ever need to ask a question again. I am taking my time with it and I hope it will at least put a little more spin on what has already been said so that the questions have less places to go. I hope no one minds! General Kenobi
HEY, if you tell me to sharpen my pencil one extra time and that fine line I draw wins the art contest then I'd owe you big by that same token, I say the more the merrier Yours might tell me to draw that line... Besides if theres more than a few some would find yours maybe and not find others searching. I looked for a tut on how to make custom heads. and never could find a tut that was a "here's how you do er' " kinda tut. Svosh's TUT I will wholeheartedly 500% agree is a very good tutorial, and I really hope all know who Svosh is (one of my all time favorite artists) If you seen his work you know why Svosh is an artist Choices are good The more books on the library shelves the better I say
RougeTheBat
Oh goodness no, I am certainly not trying to out do any one else and svosh has helped me personally a great deal, and his tutorial was invalualable in my quest to make a new sabre... I merely am trying to take all the data I collected and put it in my own words, I really enjoy doing this sort of thing and mostly I want to take ALL the tutorials and bring them together. I want to mention in my tutorial everthing from the modeling down to placing your new sabre... after showing you in depth how to make a sabre's uti.... I mean EVERYTHING. I am not trying to play others work down in the slightest, if it were not for these people I would not have learned how... my main goal is to set it up so that all the data is crossreferrenced and complete in every detail. I intend to put links to as many of the other tuts I can find as cross linked info, so that if my tut is not clear another may be. I really want to give back a lot... I am enjoying the mess out of doing these sabre's and just wabt to say thank you by making so they never have to answer questions from people like me again... I hope.
