JKA modder needs some help :-)

Recommended Posts

well, I'm completely new to kotor modding. I'm making an anakin ep3 skin / edited model (thanks sciamano for letting me use his skin as "base".)

My problem is that I can't extract the model files of the model I already reskinned. Can someone please tell me which files are it?

I can already open kotor2 files in 3ds max - that's not the problem. I just wanna edit

the hair.

ok thx in advance :-)

here is a screen to see which model it is.

If it's the hair texure you can edit that with any pixel based editing program. If you want to open up the ascii mdl files you need a plug in for max that was originally for Neverwinter nights. The stickies in the main forum have links to what you'll need for convirting over models. ;) ooh and mdlops, see just read that list.

try here T7's thread on this

Hope that helps ;)

thanks for such a fast reply :-)

it is not the texture which I want to edit - I want to remodel the hair.

I already know how to open the files in 3ds max. My problem is that I don't know which one is the exact model :(

actually I just need to know how it is called - so if someone can please tell me...

please take a look at the pic to see which model I mean.

thx in advance :)

If you have been able to make that screenshot you should have a character with that appearance in the game, right? Open that savegame with KSE (or whatever tool you use) and take note of the value in the Appearance field for your character.

Then open up the file appearance.2da with KotorTool and look for a label in that table that matches what you just saw in KSE. When you have found the correct row, look in the column named "normalhead". This column contains the line number of the row that defines the head in the heads.2da file.

Thus, open heads.2da and find the row with the line number you just saw in the normalhead column. In heads.2da, the "head" column contains the name of the model files for that head. The other columns contains the file names of its various textures (normal + dark transitions).

So, if for example the "head" column contains the value "PFHC05", open up the Models.bif file in KotorTool and look for two files caled PFHC05.mdl and PFHC05.mdx. Those are the models for that head.

Remember that the lists in KotorTool are not sorted in alphabetical order, so you may have to do some searching to find the files.
